It's our best start in 50 years, and we have moved from 54th in Europe under BR to 14th (and climbing). Where are the whinge bags now?
one could argue it was at least part due to fan pressure that FSG dropped their cheapie prospect policy and signed some top quality players, hence the improvement in performance and results. Could we have done what we've done without VvD, Salah, Keita and Alisson?
Never underestimate the value and utility of a decent whinger or two.

Could we have done it without those signings? Maybe, maybe not, but I don't see how it's a relevant question. Phil's sale funded VVD and Alisson, and Keita and Salah were more or less in the price range we've been shopping previously, perhaps a notch or two higher. We were able to get them because we've become more successful (CL footy to offer) and more profitable.

FSG have relaxed the purse strings somewhat, yes, but part of that is Klopp and Edwards have proven more prudent shoppers in the transfer market. After seeing Mane, Robertson, Wjinaldum, and Salah prove such successes, it was much easier for them to trust them.

So I'm not sure how you separate the change in policy from Klopp's success and improvement. It's a product of it, not the cause.

Given that every signing is a risk, the world record fees for a keeper and half back is a clear and unambiguous break from the previous prospect policy, to mention just two. As I said it's arguable that the significant fan unrest and "whinging" as you put it, prior to the change of policy, is at least in part, responsible for this movement. Of course Klopp will have played a significant part too, but the "whinging" from fans shouldn't be lightly dismissed.

I'm guessing seeing the value of the club and their investment rising based on some moderate success, and some high value bids for the club, has also helped FSG realise that some decent investment could deliver serious returns.

Yes that too, in any business investment in quality, be it in people, equipment or infrastructure is likely to yield better returns than investing in substandard resources, FSG being somewhat risk adverse, obviously needed "encouragement", or as you say 'help' to realise the potential returns.

Fans whinged about signing Robertson, now he's the best left back in the league. Fans whinged about Klopp being defensively inept, now we are the stingiest in the league.

Fans on this thread said we should bin off the CL last year, and we got to the final. Fans said ox was trash and a bad signing. He proved them wrong.

Whinging didn't fix any of that, Klopp's process did. The only thing fans did to help was get behind the team to make Anfield a fortress again, which they did to their credit. The miserable [oops] on threads like these didn't improve us. Klopp did.

I wasn't referring to just those fans who "whinge" and post on this site. I was referring to fan unrest and whinging in general, which includes jurnos, commentators, ex players, etc. There was a considerable degree of publicly voiced unrest and criticism of the failure to sign the appropriate quality of player prior th the shift of recruitment policy. I repeat, It's arguable that it had an influence on FSG dropping the moneyball policy.

The funny thing is, I am sure FSG bought us on the back of financial fairplay coming in, so they thought the playing field would level out and the excesses of transfer fees etc would be stopped, with our history and following, they could turn us into a leading club again if the likes of Abramovic could not come in and just pump money into a club like Chelsea.

The way football money has escalated must have come out of no where for FSG, they bought us for something like £280 million, they bought us with little knowledge or experience of Football. There are reports of recent bids between £1.5 - £2 Billion, if we were sold now people would expect us to be sold for around those amounts.

The club has basically funded itself to buy players, TV revenues have gone through the roof, the new stand is a loan from FSG which is being paid off from the increased revenue, so they have done very well.

LFC also raised FSG into a globally recognised brand, FSG were mainly a US group who were not really known outside of the US, having LFC in their portfolio would have opened some lucrative doors for investment I am sure.

FSG didn't drop the moneyball policy, they just got better at it. Ox, Salah, Mane, Coutinho, Sturridge, Suarez, Robertson, Gomez, Milner, Wjinaldum, Firmino, and Shaquiri are all examples of undervalued players. The only difference is difference is Klopp is much better then Kenny or BR at being on the same page as the recruitment team, and he has been better at developing those players.

They made two exceptions with VVD and Alisson, but that was more of an example of Klopp deciding that was the player he wanted, whatever it took. But just because they were more expensive doesn't mean that they were overvalued. In fact, The people who research the approach itself argue that they actually fit the model still.

Jonathan Dyson did a piece that talks about the moneyball approach being the underpinning of this season that showed up in several newspapers.

Well I’m not fussed as to why we got these players but we did and it has improved us massively. We need a trophy now though as the icing on the cake.

I can see us winning something this season. And it will all be down to the brilliance of Jurgen Klopp.

If and when he decides to move on, then what back-room brigade do we have, or is it all him?

Can we have another Liverpool Dynasty or just win a pot or two then the boss moves on and we go backwards?

That's a fookin big concern.

Don't get me wrong. I want to see planning and building from the club as a whole, not just the dependency on one man's leadership and coaching.
