I k ow I'm not the only one who has been surprised/impressed by those two.

So glad Gomez got a run at CB. Much better than Lovren and Matip.

Van Dijk could probably make me look good in defence. But Gomez hasn't been troubled by palace or westham who both have lumps for forwards.

I hope Klopp sticks with them as they can surely only get better. When lovren or Matip come back they should not go straight back in.

Might be worth playing Lovren for a few games before Christmas so that he builds up his reputation as one of the best defenders the world has ever seen... and then sell him in Jan for as much as poss. If we're lucky someone might pay some really good money for him... maybe even Everton! grin

He needs booting out anyway. Plays through injury for Croatia. Plays like he has an injury for us.

Gomez has been great. Been wanting to see him at CB for a long time.

Gomez has been brilliant. I have been critical of him at right back, but he is just super in the centre of defence. Well done young lad. And he is coached on the park and learning from the brilliant VVD.
I actually think that he is better than Matip and Lovren as he has more pace and strength and is courageous.

Hazzaaa young Joe Gomez!

I can't believe what I am seeing on here. A thread praising Gomez after all the rubbish that people have been saying about him.

I keep saying that there are not many of his age in the CB position in the PL let alone one at a big club. He was brought into the club at a time when his position for England u18's and u21's was as a CB and we threw him in at full back 2 or 3 years ago.

He now has world class players to play with and it is bringing out a huge improvement in his game. He is only going to get better in this situation. I just hope that when he does throw in the odd poor performance as all players do that he is not slated by everyone.

Should be our CB pairing for the foreseeable. Lovren has proved over n over he's not good enough and has a mistake in him.

Gomez is actually a central defender and has not had the opportunity to play there before regularly if at all.

Let's not get too carried away here. He played well against crystal palace and westham. Which is great. Brilliant for a young CB. Now, because he still is young we're going to see this occasionally. Young, talented players often have peaks and troughs in their performances. The problem is, in his position if you have a bad game and/or make mistakes it costs your team the game. This is why traditionally your goalkeeper and CB's are generally your most senior players as consistency is paramount in those positions. My only concern is that, in a season where we are hotly tipped to push city for the league, there might be a moment in the season where it all falls down and will come crashing down on whoever it is at fault for a particular mistake (because it could very possibly all come down to one or two games this season). I have no doubt that gomez will go on to become an amazing CB. Are we taking a gamble on having him in this position though, if we are to challenge for the league, seeing as it would be his first real prolonged stint in the first team in that position? (I dont believe Lovren is better by the way, just for the record)

So if you don't think Lovren is better, who do you want to play?
