Let's not get too carried away here. He played well against crystal palace and westham. Which is great. Brilliant for a young CB. Now, because he still is young we're going to see this occasionally. Young, talented players often have peaks and troughs in their performances. The problem is, in his position if you have a bad game and/or make mistakes it costs your team the game. This is why traditionally your goalkeeper and CB's are generally your most senior players as consistency is paramount in those positions. My only concern is that, in a season where we are hotly tipped to push city for the league, there might be a moment in the season where it all falls down and will come crashing down on whoever it is at fault for a particular mistake (because it could very possibly all come down to one or two games this season). I have no doubt that gomez will go on to become an amazing CB. Are we taking a gamble on having him in this position though, if we are to challenge for the league, seeing as it would be his first real prolonged stint in the first team in that position? (I dont believe Lovren is better by the way, just for the record)
