If Vvd was agreed before Jan, so was Coutinho. You're very naive if you think FSG would sanction £75m on one player without knowing there was big money coming in.
If the deal to sign VvD was in last summers budget, I suppose he's got £140m to spend in the summer, after Keita arrives? I'm guessing he'll have around £50m after Keita in the summer. If he spends another £100m+ without selling, I'll be impressed with FSG.
AH - at the moment we're joint third with one of your 'big 3' so I don't think anyone's being easy on him. According to you he must be over-acheiving?
I think we had money to buy Aubameyang as the total with VVD would have been what we sold Coutinho for. I don't know if it was Klopp of FSG who was not interested, but I feel this will come to bite us not getting top 4. From what Klopp said, I think it was his decision, he basically said that position was not a priority, to be fair, if we only had £50 million to spend, I would prefer we went for a top class GK. The problem is he brought in neither, we needed to strengthen both positions, so if a GK was not available, a striker should have been brought in, now we are weaker in both positions rather than 1, especially with how he has handled the GK, neither keeper can have any real confidence they are wanted or valued, true or not, that makes both GK vulnerable and confidence is shot but now we have to use them for the most important half of the season. Maybe Klopp is waiting to see if regular football at WBA brings Sturridge back to the player he was? it's a huge gamble Klopp is taking.

He was not going to bring a GK now as he has probably promised Karius he will have his chance. To try to get 4th and still do well in the CL with only Firmino as a proven striker is not a gamble but madness. As somebody wrote here a few days back, if the owners and the manager are not interested, why should we. I am going to take the rest of the season starting today very lightly and even feel they should be taught a lesson by not finishing in the top 4. Fk them.

He had the money I'm sure, but it's his summer budget. There'd be outrage if he spent his summer budget on a striker, and rightly so. Even Arsenal can buy top players in positions they don't need.

He can't just buy a striker because a GK isn't available. If he's gambling, it's by waiting until the summer for his top GK target, whoever that is, rather than buy just anyone now. I don't like to keep hearing about players 'confidence'. Migs confident should be shot because he makes mistake after mistake, not because he gets rotated. If a players dropped he should return to the side with a vengeance, not with his head down and lip out because he's worried the manager doesn't like him very much.

What do you mean his summer budget, Coutinho's sale would have covered both VVD and Aubameyang. Are you saying he would have nothing to spend this summer?

Not really because Keita's costing another £50m roughly.

Given Liverpool only have the one chance to win a trophy this season ( even that is unlikely) - I expect the squad assembled/retained by klopp to date to finish in top 4. We must finish in top 4 to stand any chance of attracting the desired quality - seemingly lacking throughout todays match with Spurs (with one exception - Mo Salah - and his individual brilliance).
BTW.. Salah/Firmino/Mane work well individually, but I think there is not much teamwork/linking between them to be more clinical up front
Klopp should be on notice if we do not finish top 4

Imo So if there was no sale, there wouldn't be any money to buy players? I am sure we will have 50m to spend when we qualify for CL.

If we do qualify for the champions league we are still not going to be able to attract the real top qualitiy players as those players want to play for Clubs who appear in the competition season in season out and not clubs who might do twice in five or six seasons. The other thing is, these players want to play for clubs who can actually win it and not just take part in the competition like Benfica, Liverpool, Ajax and Okympiakos etc so qualifying for champions league is no guarantee you will get the best players. If you look at who came to us last time we qualified under Rodgers, Ballotelli, Llalana, Lovren and Ricky Lambert hardly top class.... Really? Arsenal attracted 2 this window and they're not in the CL, or even the relevant league position for next year.
