The last few posts I agree with. We are limited to a budget. United, City, and Chelsea throw money around for fun on fees and wages. Klopp is a good manager and not many would come in and do a better job. Pocchetino, Conte maybe a few other names. Might do slightly better. Maybe they wouldn't. If you think we are just going to push City, Utd an Chelsea out of the way overnight with a change of manager. With our pay structure, budget then you are off your head.

The OP raised a good point in another thread that people get bored after a few years and start wanting new blood. Does not matter who it is unless the manager is gone. People get nasty and they can't even have a proper thought process. I know people who started using Rodgers teeth as something to beat him with. Also with Klopp hugging the players. WTF has that got anything to do with managing a team. Same with talking about replacing players in the team after a bad game with youth players who never get a sniff. They don't get sniff because they are not up to it yet. Playing well in an U-23 game is totally different than playing in the PL.

And I agree the problem with winning games against City and then losing against Swansea is we don't have enough top levels players. You can't expect our forward line to be banging in 3-4 goals every game. Midfield goes missing way too much. And the defense should not need a 3-0 lead every game to get a win.

I agree with the last posts too!

I'd just like to add that what Klopp really needs to do sharpish, as he obviously is on a relatively tight budget (compared to the other top clubs), is sort the f*cking defence out. I'm not talking about new players now but how to set the existing ones up.

That doesn't cost anything at all. It just has to do with getting the best out from what you've got.

Start conceding fewer goals right now, and then get a proper 'keeper in during the summer would put us in a much much better position than what we're in atm.

Sign average to good at cheaper fees for improvements... then he’ll be slammed for doing things too slow, not ambitious enough, cannot attract top class, gunning for potential blah blah....
Whatever the manager or the club does, you’ll always have something negative to say.
Thought you’ll be mourning abit more after last nights mauling.

Remember back in 2013 when we signed:

Luis Alberto £6,800,000
Iago Aspas £7,000,000
Kolo Toure Free
Simon Mignolet £10,000,000
Tiago Ilori £7,000,000
Mamadou Sakho £18,000,000

That was not good enough. Didn't look like it then and doesn't look like it now with hindsight either.

Summer 2014 we signed:

Emre Can £10,000,000
Rickie Lambert £4,000,000
Adam Lallana £25,000,000
Lazar Markovic £20,000,000
Dejan Lovren £20,000,000
Divock Origi £10,000,000
Alberto Moreno £12,000,000
Mario Balotelli £16,000,000
Lawrence Vigouroux Free
Kevin Stewart Free

That was bad too. Maybe we could say 2 out of 10 came good. The rest didn't.

I would say we have gone from one extreme to another. Now we're suddenly signing too expensive and too few players.

Yes I fully agree ecnirp, and those are my reasons for wanting Klopp to succeed. However it looks like the deal to sign VvD was decided and budgeted last season, therefore Klopp didn't perhaps need to sell his best player and seriously weaken his first eleven in mid season. If that gamble works out he's a hero, if it doesn't he's a fool, and there will be hell to pay, and with different owners he'd probably pay with his job.

Well of course we have to play what is generally considered one of the best defenders in the Pl, to not play him as you suggest would be silly. However you're correct in your assessment that we need to add 3 - 4 more top quality players to get the full benefit from signing VvD.

I think the original budget/expected fee last summer for VvD was around £40 million from what I remember, no one was talking £75 million, that fee was after we totally p*ssed off Southampton and they threatened to report us, also the Neymar deal went through that pushed all big transfer fees up by 25-50%, so it may well be we didn't proceed in the summer as we needed money due in for the January transfer budget, at the end of the day, only our accountants know.

People are too easily defending Klopp in my opinion and far too ready to make excuses for him. All these people saying he's waiting for the right players is very admirable if your one of the big three however when the best players you have are average to good at best you should be just signing improvements rather than top class...

On a tight budget compared to our rivals who we are competing against (Man Utd/Man City/Chelsea/Arsenal), if they were not in the PL we would have a large budget.... it appears the VvD signing was based on selling Coutinho, so that's not budget, that's cashing in a valuable asset to buy another asset (at half the value), it's a judgement call of which is more important for the whole team, that's a judgement call Pep or Jose wouldn't have to make, as they could buy VvD without having to sell an Aguero, Pogba, Lacazette or Hazard.

If Vvd was agreed before Jan, so was Coutinho. You're very naive if you think FSG would sanction £75m on one player without knowing there was big money coming in.

If the deal to sign VvD was in last summers budget, I suppose he's got £140m to spend in the summer, after Keita arrives? I'm guessing he'll have around £50m after Keita in the summer. If he spends another £100m+ without selling, I'll be impressed with FSG.

AH - at the moment we're joint third with one of your 'big 3' so I don't think anyone's being easy on him. According to you he must be over-acheiving?

I think we had money to buy Aubameyang as the total with VVD would have been what we sold Coutinho for. I don't know if it was Klopp of FSG who was not interested, but I feel this will come to bite us not getting top 4.
