Totally agree! A nation like England! You would expect any player playing "the Heskey role" or Target man. To be able to hold it up and score!

I spose in a perfect world! Barry Would be fit! Sloted in along side Lampard and Gerrard would be given the free role up front along side Rooney!! There is no player in the league that does'nt that role better then Gerrard!

Heskey is there because if he plays he makes sure one of lampard, gerrard or Rooney has a really good game, on some occasions more than one of the 3 may even benifit.

It's like having Barry play in cm hes not really a good player but he gets the best out of our midfield and the full backs when he plays, because there's less reponsability on them.
Heskey does the exact same thing upfront and aginst the USA he was brillant imo won almost every single ball, really good pass to set up Gerrard.

Personaly I would like England to play Heskey upfront with rooney and Gerrard behind in atting mid positions. Rooney just can't handle playing upfront he doesn't have the dicipline to stay upfront as he always drops too deep. From minute one he came back into Gerrard and Lampard role cause he was getting no services and cluttered up the centre mid. So we had no fast tempo passing in the centre mid in the second half.

Also when Crouch plays the other forward gets no service at all and we barely have any creativity in the midfield as we always look to get the ball out wide to cross to Crouch.

SO Heskey massive + for me, and if he plays against Algeria I'm sure he'll play as well if not better against them.

Although for England to win the WC Rooney has to score goals when put through into one on ones thus Heskey shouldn't play nor Crouch and Gerrard should be behind Rooney, as only he can feed Rooney with one on one chances.

Upcoming world class players IMO for 2014 WORLD CUP:
K-P Boateng, Gotze, Sturridge, Kroos, Lucas Leiva, Hummels, Kyriakos Papadopoulos,

Wasn't it Capello in charge at Roma when we beat them in the Uefa cup a few years back - pretty sure he said that Heskey was the striker he most feared in europe at that point due to his size, speed and strength.

In my book, an attacker should do more than just hold the ball up. When he had that chance, he looked like a defender that had got lucky. He just shut his eyes and hit it straight at Howard. Thats not good enough no matter what else he did/does. As for helping Stevie, Lampard and Rooney play better. It didn't did it.

So far, I am quite impressed with the Ghanians and Koreans. They will give anyone a run for their money.

he's been brilliant in the german league.

so was James Milner. and look how he turned out in the lat game. The player of the tournament is not decided in one game. Let's give them a chance to prove themselves

Keep an eye on Honda and Tanaka from Japan, as a team i doubt they will make it to the knockout stages but these two are very good players and could see them playing in thew prem next season.

Former Paraguay goalkeep Paulo Chilavert has a better international goalscoring record than Big Emile

i like honda - i won a few hundred quid with a bet on him scoring a goal yesterday lol we were linked with him last summer so have kept an eye on him and he is a good goal scorer and normally great from a dead ball but not with this world cup ball lol
