Arsenal risk losing him on a free next summer if they don't get rid now or he doesn't sign a new contract. He has apparently stated his desire to join Liverpool, even going so far as to reject a £40mil offer from Chelsea in order to join Liverpool specifically.

Weighed against losing him on a free, accepting let's say £37mil would be preferable. There's a very good chance that Arsenal would accept an offer less than the Chelsea one, they could of course be stubborn about it but I think this is the right approach from Liverpool if they want Chamberlain.

But why would we pay even £30m when he's free next summer? If he wants to join us that much then surely he will wait it out until next year?

I suppose it's a similar situation to Keita's, he's available now and apparently wants to join Liverpool, if we wait 12 months we could risk losing him.

Also, in 12 months time, Christ knows what will have changed, we might not be in the Champion's League (lowering our chance of signing him and potential budget), Klopp could be gone in 12 months, Arsenal might have convinced him to stay in 12 months.

Oxlaide Chaberlain is exactly the type of player that will ensure we don't qualify for the Champion's League.

He hasn't scored more than two goals in a premier league season and is a hugely overpaid journeyman.

Thankfully we seem to have abandoned the scatter gun approach in the transfer market. Let's not go back to it.

His presence didn't stop Arsenal from qualifying for the Champion's League for four out of his five seasons there so I don't see any sense in that, Shaggy.

I think people are getting far too carried away with this one, Liverpool seem to be going for Lemar first and foremost, perhaps with Oxlade-Chamberlain as a backup or possibly (though I doubt it) in addition.

I don't think Klopp has any intention of signing Chamberlain as a first team player, if he came here, he would be a squad player. So the question is, is he better than what Liverpool have on the bench? I think the answer to that is yes.

9 goals and 11 assists in all comps last year isn't too bad. He's the sort of player that might do really well under Klopp. He hasn't kicked on the way he was supposed to, but he's got physical presence and some good skills. He'd be a good squad player, especially with Lallana out for a while. If Henderson, Can or Gini gets hurt, he would be able to fill in, and he can play across the front three as well.

I'm not really concerned how much we pay for him. The market is bananas right now anyway. Our midfield 3 is solid, and Keita is coming next season. Where Lallana or even Phil fits is up for debate right now. He's a squad player, but it's the area where we need a little more depth this year at least.

I don't see why people are upset that a young english talent is turning down chelsea because he wants to play for us.
