I think it's more and more apparent that all we're really hoping for is that LFC get some money to spend on players. It doesn't boil down to anything else. The philosophy, nationatilty and all other factors that would at one time have coloured our view of a would be owner seem to have been completely put to one side. Football clubs really are now, with a few exceptions amongst the elite eg Barcelona, just franchises and amusements for the very rich.
If a mega bucks owner arrives and deluges a new manager with spending power 'we' will suddenly become 'contenders' and our beloved stars will stay or flock to join. We might win the league BUT if we do, I think you're right to imagine that it will have a very different feel to it than on any other occasion in the past.
Winning the league won't depend only on money because the teams that have the best coaches will still play the better football BUT only highly funded teams will have the best players and coaches so only rich clubs can now hope to win. It's always been the way, some might argue, but in the past the money has been earned by the success of the club and the sums required to be a contender were less astronomic than at present. Football clubs had to be self sustaining enterprises which improved the health of the league and ensured a more competitive environment.
In terms of the Prem, I can't see past Chelsea, Man City unless the other big clubs acquire similar funding. Spurs might come into consideration but that may only be due to the fact that they have a lot of money also but are, somehow, less ostentatious about it. Man United have funding issues not dissimilar to ours and that will curtail their dominance. It's all about money. One might just as well be supporting an Arab state or a Russian businessman. The loyalty of the fans, the geographical position, the heritage etc can no longer have any real bearing on the destiny of a club. The only thing we're really supporting, from here on in, is a person - yet to be disclosed but hopefully extremely rich. It's a bit depressing but in typical Koptalk contradition to this starkly negative and cynical ananlysis I'd just like to ask is Kenny definitely out of the running then?
