I'd be more interested in just how many players for each club these figures are based on and what the average cost per transfer was?

FSG have played penny slots for a large part of their time, whilst Spurs have probably been more realistic in their game of chance!

Not exactly, rather think Spurs have sold their top players for larger fees like Bale and Modric. They have however made less mistakes and also got a fee good players from their academy or bought cheap such as Kane and Delle Alli

We've bought a lot of players but not all for 'penny slot' money as you put it. Mane, Gini, Benteke, Lalanna, Lovren all in excess of £20m.

The problem is we haven't bought as smart as Spurs. I think Klopp will change that hence why we've not seen the scatter gun approach as in other summer windows. That won't suit the want it nows but there's still plenty of time to get in the quality he wants.

I think the moneys available but it seems the players are not, so I don't think our net spend this summer will be that high.

I'm a bit worried by the positions we're targetting as well. Sure Van Dijk would be an improvement on Lovren, but is he actually much better than Sakho? I'm not sure he is. Why can't Klopp make up with Sakho then we can spend the £60-70 million on a position we desperately need to fill.

To me we desperately need a top striker and a left back for our starting 11 and it seems these are not a priority at all for Klopp. Seems happy with Firminio up front who isn't a striker and is far from prolific. I think we'll still struggle to score in certain games against packed defences unless we sign a proper striker.

We have loads of central midfielders so I don't get why Keita seems to be our number one target. We've already got Henderson, Coutinho, Can, Lallana, Wijnaldum and Lucas, with Grujic and Evaria as backups.

Buying 2nd rate players LB,CB and DM won't win us the league either , atleast VvD brings us closer to winning the league

I agree on the whole apart from Sakho isn't the answer. He's a fukking clown who needs to be binned.

I also think we really do need a top quality CB but we have no need to be mugged by Southampton as we've seen with recent transfers.

We don't have to buy second rate players if we don't get VvD. As Utd and Chelsea have proved there is quality out there for a lot less unless you think Lindelof and Rudiger are second rate?

You also suggested the other day that if we bought VvD for the asking price we could still spend £10m on a LB but lets not forget that that doesn't even buy you Moreno in todays market. How is that NOT buying second rate?

Valuing players isn't just about what their actual price tag is, it's not even just how many points it gives you, it's also directly strengthening your team whilst stopping opposition clubs getting stronger , if we're complaining about 15million inflation and let's say City pay for VvD and he goes to city, we struggle to find a player good enough so we buy less quality . City then finish 4th above us and make that money back from TV rights, shirt sales, and then they build momentum as they have champions league football, as we miss out based on a reluctance to overspend the cost becomes greater than 15million.

Succee brings profit not buying moneyball value with re-selling value, this is a mid-table club strategy of making profit

we could buy just VvD this window , LB in January and a DM next season within a year we'd cover all three positions with top targets , a little patience in building a quality squad & overpaying to make sure we get our targets and we can honestly say our team should be challenging every season to win the league ,

we can pay extra and be so close to success , or miss out on top targets and we continue in the merry-go-round of potential for another 7 years until the youth develop and eventually sold to club with more ambition.

LFC won't survive long term with a naive transfer strategy that even Klopp wants to change.

these things add up, we miss out on one top target every window , 7 years later we are trying to offload players, we are losing money with moneyball signings . buying one player a window is normal for massive clubs, it's unfortunate to be deterred from a top target based on 10milliin inflation. we'd buy a second rate CB , offload him in a couple seasons for a reduced fee , we lose 10million and without a quality player. A loss-loss ( lose money and don't sign quality) vs a win-loss ( overspend but get quality )
the net spend won't look much different.

I don't think Sakho is the type of CB we/Klopp need, he wants good ball playing/passing CBs which Sakho is not. Regarding Keita, I think Klopp rates him very highly and despite having Wijnaldum, Henderson, Can and maybe Milner (if we buy a LB) for 2 positions, he wants him. I also think that none of our CMs are very defensive and only Lucas is but probably on the way out. I also think that we need a striker unless Sturridge is expected to stay fitter and/or Solanke is much better than Origi who I think we should sell.

You are making as of VVD is the only good CB in the world, I wonder why other clubs are not after him. He is 26 years old, what has he achieved so far, the best he's done is to play for Southampton.
