http://sport360.com/article/football/239...net-spend-ever/

This is the link that sums it up- talks about Netspend
Summarized as below

2012/13 net spend [ 41.3 million]

2013/14 net spend [ 20.3 million ]

2014/15 net spend [ 38.38 million]

2015/16 net spend [ 28.0 million ]

2016/17 net spend [ 6.46 million PROFIT]

So considering the earlier years were more about balancing the books, and considering now under Klopp 2016/17 we made profit, financially theirs no excuse to overspend on either VvD or keita , atleast one of them .
We are in a better financial position, more T.v. Rights money , and still made a profit last year.
Financially their is no excuses Klopp has been responsible in the window saving money and DESERVES his targets even if it means overspending!!! He earnt it

The only thing in the way is obsessive compulsive disorders where FSG cannot bear the idea they are overspending because they have serious issues going against their questionable moneyball regime.

--------------

Van Dijk has sounded to Southampton it's LFC or nothing!

At this point Southampton seem more likely to do business 'compared' to RB Leipzig who said they wouldn't accept even 100million for keita .

VvD has done his part ( besides handing in a transfer request )
He wants to play champions league football before the World Cup next year, can't blame him.

Now it's up to LFC , we are lucky he chose us, we are probably going to get a free run at VvD, just like salah , we are very lucky, but it's balanced out by our tapping up so we may have to pay 65+ million no less ,
Even it's it's overspending , the stage is finally set , FSG have nowhere to hide ,

The worry? They can get too smart for their pants and once again try to haggle Southampton and let the transfer drag on, OR they can just come up with the extra 10-15 million.

Allow Klopp a proper pre-season with VvD, allow the supporters to feel excited after the embarrassment , allow the player to get settled in the team earlier.

This is it now, no excuses for FSG the moment of truth. the netpend doesn't lie. They can't suppress our expectations any longer.

I think we are going to see money spent this summer. Less signings so far to me looks like we after a higher calibre of player

FSG must know they are on the verge of a huge backlash if they [oops] up this summer

Just for some perspective, I've just looked at some figures that say that our gross spend for the last 5 years is £350m which is the fourth highest for the EPL. Spurs have a NET spend of -£13.7 for that period yet have over taken us.

That is very interesting , in all fairness spurs haven't had many flops , we've bought plenty which were sold cheaper , FSG have spend under dalglish and Brendan , but it's now klopp's opportunity which he earned.

Tottenham is a funny one though , such a low net spend but they have an all round quality first11 I'd say it's smarter ad calculated business ,

FSG has looser pockets than Tottenham , but we bought 3 teams worth of players in 7 years , that isn't good business , we've had turn over of players . if we had Klopp for 7 years it would probably look similar to spurs . but I wouldn't say Tottenham are good enough to make that next step , I reckon they've hit their peak , looking at Janssen, they have issues getting in quality more than LFC

Next season new stadium may be hard for them, kudos to the spurs but that still doesn't mean we shouldn't spend ,

Spurs show that you don't need to spend over the odds to get good players. How much did the spend on Alderweirald and the other fell (who's name I forget?)? For me both are up there with the best in the EPL yet we're supposed to spend way over the odds for VvD?

It's about buying smart as well as spending loads of money and it's something we haven't done since FSG. I personally feel that Klopp will change that.

We can pick and choose other teams as examples but when tactics differ , so does the requirement or the CB, pique discarded by man Utd but excelled at Barcelona, in a perfect world we'd have gotten van dijk for 10 million at Celtic , if we want alderweild he'd be 70+ Million anyway .

I'm sure Barcelona fans weren't complaining they didn't buy Suarez for 25 million from Ajax ,

Sometimes you make bargain signings ( Coutinho,Matip, mané)

Sometimes overpaying is required . It's about acknowledging your scouting department aren't good enough and making up for it in transfer fees.

Tottenham are the exception and even they aren't a more exciting prospect than LFC,

We either complain we didn't get quality cheaper or just bite the bullet,

It's not like Klopp only buys big names, don't you think he deserves some credibility in his top targets??? why would you rather him search for his second best target? Being a competitive team is based on points , not buying bargains. Money is a means to an end, we want VvD so it's a breath of fresh air to overspend once in 7 years!

The issue isn't to worry about other clubs hiking up prices,
I think the only issue is clubs don't want to deal with us now in future based on our haggling.

I think our spending perception is so far on the haggling side that it would take far more than one inflated signing to change that perspective

Oh and his name is vertonghen

If FSG overspent in the past it's because they put faith in a young manager in Brendan Rodgers for signings, none of the expensive signings under BR reflected the quality expected , that cannot be held against Klopp .

Consider Klopp saving the 25million for a winger in January part of the inflation for VvD , it's inflated but it won't harm our chances to sign others nor will it suddenly turn us into a big spending club.

Vertongen! I kept think Vermaelen but that was the Arsenal man.

Over paying is all well and good and I still think we'll end up buying VvD. But getting mugged is another matter and to pay £75m for him is just that IMO.

Fair enough , I think that 75+ million will be well dwarfed by him holding up the league trophy/ champions league trophy with us next season smile

That's the whole point, buying only VVD won't win us the league, we still need a LB and probably a defensive midfielder
