I rate the following as much better than Gerrard.

Kenny Dalglish

Rushie

people who claim Gerrard was our best ever player have no concept of the history of our club.
i think some of it depends on how old you are, younger people will have Gerrard at the top because unfortunately they have never known real success. If I was asked Gerrard probably wouldn't be in my top ten greatest but then again neither would Billy Liddell and that's because I never had the privilege to watch him but I know to people over 60 he was the greatest ever...

Different times, different teams, different styles, different requirements. There's no such thing as best ever player whether for your own team or football in general.

Also to even qualify to have an opinion on this you'd have to have lived through it all and seen them all on a consistent basis. Otherwise you can only have an educated opinion regarding the period of time you have been watching.

Are people not allowed to formulate their own opinions?

Deciding who is Liverpool's best ever player is impossible, everyone will have their own choice and valid reasons for it.

good point...think one thing which can't really be argued with is what greatest means, Although players can fit in and out of the greatest bracket the actual meaning surely has to be what they have actually achieved themselves in contributing to making Liverpool great.
What I mean is a player that contributes to winning Liverpool a cup can't be greater than a person who has contributed winning 3 cups and so on. Jimmy Traore and Steve Finnan both contributed and helped Liverpool win the Champions League, could there input into the Club be say greater than Alan Kennedy who was also a full back but won Leagues and European Cups...

Thank you Steven Gerard. You changed my life, because of you and Liverpool football club I left Ireland for Liverpool. Others came and gone but were a constant presence of hope and greatness. Met my wife in Liverpool and now two kids sing Steven Gerard is our captain in a very happy house. Was hoping for a romantic return, and a deserved league title, maybe someday eh? I feel sad and privileged. The best player I ever seen at an field.

It's been a pleasure lad.

for me in top 10 included Souey at the top, then Dalglish then it's filled with the likes of Keegan, Emlyn, Hansen, Neal, Clem, Ray Kennedy, Terry Mac, Rushie, players arguably might include Alan Kennedy, Jimmy Case and Ronnie Whelan.....

I agree Spangles.

I just find the hysteria around Gerrard laughable.

The slip and coming on as a sub vs Man Utd and getting sent off within 40seconds.

His alleged role in the downfall of Rafa.

His 2 autobiographies released while he was still playing.

Those are the reason's in my eyes why Gerrard will never surpass our lads from our title winning teams of the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Never captain material in my eyes. Should have been Carra as captain.

I guess performances in major games don't count then?

Istanbul 2005
Cardiff 2006

Two most obvious examples of one player dragging a team to a victory, it that's not a good captain I don't know what is.

The amount of bile against the club and former players on here is reaching shameful levels.
