On Thursday, he said he will take time to consider his options before making an announcement on the next stage of his career "very soon", adding: "I am excited about the future and feel I still have a lot to offer the game, in whatever capacity that may be."

So he possibly hasn't then.

In other words, a non news story eek

Incredible player. Amazing captain. Zidane was amazing. Kenny was the king. Messi and Ronaldo are unbelievable but Gerrard could play anywhere on the pitch and still get man of the match.

Very we'll put there Bo, Gerrard could do everything and anything in football and do it with distinction. Is there anyone in the history of the game, anywhere in the world, that could do that and do it to Gerrard's standard? I don't think so, and he has the added grace to be modest and unassuming to boot. We were privileged to have seen him play.

there was much I liked about John Barnes, and one thing I didn't, but while he's definitely one of the greats, he would be the first to admit that Gerrard was better.

I love Johnny Barnes, imagine how good he would have been if he wasn't forced to play in hot pants.

That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

yes For me Johnny Barnes was the most complete player I have seen in a Liverpool shirt although Gerrard pushes him close...

Gerrard was by no means our best ever player.

I rate the following as much better than Gerrard.

Kenny Dalglish
Emlyn Hughes
Yeates - a true man mountain
Souness
Billy Liddell
Rushie

people who claim Gerrard was our best ever player have no concept of the history of our club.
