IMO there are two questions to ask here.
1) who does Mane replace in our starting 11?
Answer) Probably only Lallana
2) is he an improvement?
Answer) That's the real point that matters. And the answer is 'probably a little bit'. I think he'd get more goals as seen from his career stats. But will he offer the safe defensive work that Lallana does? Probably not. For 30m, I'd want us to sign a definite improvement. While there's risk in every transfer, the potential upside to this one seems a bit limited for the cost that's why I said it's about liverpool making decisions about the structure of their team, coutinho is more of our wide inside forward like sanchez is for arsenal on the left, we have to decide if we want our right side to be able to be more accommodating of a goalscorer/goalscoring winger. Though both left, right and central midfielders are capable of scoring if we are able to interchange and get shots away in good areas. creativity from deep is also important. yes I agree we shouldn't get him not for 40m, even at 30m klopp would be taking a bigger gamble than in some ways, he could afford

Also sadio mane links growing all the time.
Could be another massive amount spent on a one season wonder.
£30mil Wasted. But Mane has done well for Southampton, he's young and Premier league proven, and he looks like he could suit our style of play. I would be delighted if we signed him. i am too

Mane does look the business .
That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

Brand new stadium, not an upgrade on a few stands. Bids in for Lacazette & Batshuayi just a few to mention Solid owners who attend 80%+ of games (could be higher)
Mane is decent. He plays for southampton. Southampton arent in the top 4 or challenge for anything. Mane is good for southampton because they play to his strengths. That wouldnt happen at liverpool, look at lallana. Runs all day, but cant score, shoot or pick a decent pass at times. He was a success at southampton because their style suited him and also because they are a midtable team.
Its not just liverpool who have signed poorly from southampton. Luke shaw went for massive money, had 3/4 decent games but was a disaster in others. Got injured and has been out through no fault of his own. Then theres chambers who went to arsenal, who doesnt get a look into the squad let alone league cup games against lower teams.
30 million for mane? Why not try sign a top players for 30 million? Have we even tried putting a 30 million bid in for moratta or someone like that? No because Liverpool cannot sign big players anymore. Its hard for us to accept but its the truth.
Let this sink in .... Gundogan went for 20 million and we are signing mane for possibly 30 million. City get the ferrari for good money and we get the fiat punto. i have had 4 fiat puntos and there is nothing wrong with them

I think Mane is a decent player but in no way shape or form is he worth the reported £30million we are prepared to pay for him.
If this deal goes through next week as anticipated then our three record signings will be as follows:
Andy Carroll - £35million Christian Benteke £32.5million Sadio Mane - £30million
I cannot for the life of me understand why we constantly over-pay for Premiership players who have been a success at 'smaller' clubs. There is such a huge difference between being a good player for Southampton, Villa, Newcastle, Swansea, etc than a good player for a Liverpool team that quite simply has to challenge for and get back into the top 4 this coming season.
With the type of players we keep signing we cannot expect to finish any higher than 6th, we have a top manager and hopefully he will exceed my expectations but I honestly can't see it.
As I've said I think Mane is a decent player, his pace will add a much needed different dimension to our attack but £30million is absolutely ridiculous! Add to that £25million for Lallana and £20million for Lovren and Southampton continue to mug us off and we just accept it, £75million for those 3 players if this deal happens, just let that figure sink in.... £75million.

Trouble is Chris, with the TV money, prices will continue to inflate. Look at Watford turning down £25m for Deeney. He's a £10m player at the very most.

I know, if Leicester sign Troy Deeney for £30million then I honestly think that is one of the worst transfers of all time, alongside Andy Carroll for £35million. This is a player who has had one season of Premiership football and has scored around 12 goals at the top level at the age of 27. It's beyond comprehension how a club can think he is worth that much money!

I can see why they want him, he is perfect foil for vardy. deeney playing in the hole and vardy running towards the goal is pretty awesome.

Still not worth £30m though. That's just crazy for him.
