And it just went on and on. Clearly the players were told by the staff to keep shooting as long as Chelski sat back that deep. But as I said earlier We don't benefit from shooting since we almost never even hit the goalframe- never mind get the shot beside the 'keeper. Funny you should say that as we have scored more goals from outside the penalty box than any otherteam in the Premier League this season.

And what team has made the most shots from outside the penalty box then? If you read my previous post you can see that I was talking about conversion rates and now decided to exaggerate somewhat to get my point through.

yes we've scored the most of any team in the PL from outside the box, our shooting isn't bad. yes we do have a lot of shots our conversion rate isn't great - it's actually something that isn't that simple to improve, otherwise barce would be in the CL final right now etc. for example you could say if only we could score another 1.5 of our 22 shots per game, we'd be in the top four, not that simple. as I said 28 shots 8 on target was caused by chelsea taking the lead.

opps 13 on target* felt like 8 tbh the way we squandered good chances to get shots away in good areas at times

Funny you should say that as we have scored more goals from outside the penalty box than any otherteam in the Premier League this season. Just checked the stats, and they are as follows: Shots:Tottenham and Liverpool have 7.8 shots per game from outside the 18 yard box. Tottenham average a total of 17.3 shots per game and we average 16.8. Almost half (46.4 %) of our shots taken are from outside the box in other words! Isn't that an awful lot coming from a possession playing team? Goals:Liverpool and Man City are top of the table regarding goals from outside the 18 yard box. We both average 0.4 goals per game. SummaryWe shoot 7.8 shots from outside the box and score 0.4 goals from that area. That means we have a conversion rate of 5.1 %. Man City for example have 6.1 shots and score 0.4 goals. 6.6 % in conversion rate for them. By the way: Saw that we are 5:th in the table of number of short passes made. But we are top of the league when it comes to the number of missed short passes! Probably an area we have to/can improve a lot in the future.

Performance as expected unfortunately. Minds clearly in Switzerland. Yeah that thought crossed my mind too Growler, and I hope that's the cause of such a poor performance, they were very, very flat, I and there was a definite lack of focus. If you're right on the cause, and I hope you are, maybe we can look forward to next Wednesday with a little bit more hope. Personally I feel it's just a matter of hit or miss, with this side you never quite know what way they're going turn up.

You said we don't benefit from taking so many shots from outside the box...yet we have scored a lot of goals from those shots compared to other teams. Since scoring goals is kinda the point of the game, I felt that we do benefit. Even if we have a low conversion rate, if we attempt enough shots, we will eventually score. I would much rather we took on long range shots and scored 1 in 20 than passed the ball around endlessly just outside the box until we eventually lose possesion, a lot like Arsenal...well thats my opinion. If you can have a crack, why not?

Probably an area we have to/can improve a lot in the future. yes it is awful, but that's the thing we're not a good possession based team (we struggle to win when we have over 60% possession), there are few good possession based teams in europe, real, bayern, and barce probably the best. our shots to shots on target ratio over the past 3rd of the season has been better. as our total shots per game has also fallen since then, and we've been having less possession - other than ofc everton the anomaly since it was domination attack v defence against 10 men - even then I felt we struggled to really have good chances, coutinho scored the 3rd from range, and the 4th was liverpool having energy to spare high press lucas wins it passes it to sturridge.

there is being a good possession based team, then there is the other team making it as uncomfortable in possession as possible for you, and making sure to keep as tight as possible, and stopping you from counter attacking like man utd did this season in the league when they came to anfield. teams used to try and sit back against the man utd side of old, but it didn't work because they were so good in possession they couldn't stop them from taking the lead and then controlling the game, this is why winning with possession football imo is the ultimate.

If you can have a crack, why not? I thought it was you who must have gone up on the wrong side of the bed. That was the tone I felt when reading your reply. My points are that: 1. We shoot a lot and miss a lot. Too bad conversion rate. 2. Yesterday we shot 29 times and of those shots we missed the goal 15 times. In other words we hit the goal 14 times and scored just 1 goal. My observations regarding these stats were that we are generally too bad at shooting (and even more bad yesterday than generally spoken - we didn't score at all from long range then, but usually we score 0.4 goals per game from outside the 18 yard box). 29 shots is an awful lot too. Almost twice as many as our own average over the season so far. Again: -29 shots -1 goal Let those stats sink in and then tell me we were good at shooting last night.
