Man for man it is the limpest Liverpool lineup I have ever seen. Yet it's still doing better than Kenny's last LFC team that just about scraped into 8th place thanks to goal difference over Fulham? Please explain how today's team is worse than the team of 2011/12!? As far as I remember, that team went to 2 cup finals winning one, the last trophy we've won by the way after beating City if I am not mistaken, the Champions. Since then I haven't seen any trophies around but been knocked out of the cups, last being a poor Villa. Have you been watching LFC lately?

Kenny's team was guaranteed to hit the post or bar every match. We could have won the league if all those shots were goals. If you look at the last 4 or 5 seasons then the regression question has a more broad answer imo. It could be said that we just went through the majority of the season without a recognized striker and still came 5th, an achievement in itself. So maybe we've moved sideways instead of regressing. Personally I feel that with a few decent signings BR could do alright in the league, but to me it's in Europe that he falls flat, that's where we've really regressed. I have very little confidence in him even getting us out of the group stages in UEFA.

we should not have sacked kenny. went for the shiny new thing in the window when kenny's methods hit a slight bump. kenny knows the mechanics of football, we looked more professional mourinho like under him and yes it got dull but another transfer window and we would have been rite up there. Complete and utter cr@p....(if you don't mind me saying). Kenny also spent a fortune and didn't get us above 8th - we only scraped that on goal difference thanks to Fulham's lack of fire power. Yet people want Rodgers sacked for getting us to 5th!!?!?!?!?! "Genius" plan.

Actually, they were in superb form and have been since The Gillet took over.

With the OP's original list and the team we have assembled now it is quite apparent that neither manager was getting the best out of them. Kenny then Rogers now.
There was a lot of quality in Kenny's lineup and there are a number of players now that have been completely flat under Rogers and poorly utilized.
Neither manager good enough?

Man City are a lot stronger now than when Kenny was around, and Arsenal weren't as strong or cash rich either. Furthermore, we had strong individual players back then and our captain was a hell of a lot more useful. All in all I would have to say that BR has had the much harder job of the 2 managers, and still managed to perform much better than his predecessor.

"Genius" plan. you can say what u like. to my mind we looked more a top team under kenny than under BR. if u take away after xmas last yr. we have been found to be tactically weak and defensively naive against the top teams with BR. Kenny's team were always in the game against the big sides. a bump in the road and still a trophy in the cabinet and we sacked him. stupid

I would say in terms of being a modern football 'coach' Rodgers wins hands down, and this year hasn't had the Gerrard we've all come to rely on. You're wrong about mentioning City being weaker though, the achievement of getting past them was completely equal to if we were to do it now, same with arsenal who were still a very good side. Similarly, you're way off the mark suggesting Rodgers has had a much harder job, he's had even more money to spend in a year when 4th place wasn't even that hard to achieve yet still failed. So that doesn't wash under analysis. For me, they both deserve/deserved the sack for the same reason, and that's poor transfer records, and Rodgers is worse than Kenny's. If buying players was taken completely out of Rodgers hands and the owners let us all know that I'd be genuinely happy to Rodgers coach for another year to see what he can do. But he has wasted nearly all of the money he's ever spent for us, so I'd want a DoF choosing our players as Rodgers is pathetically incompetent at it.
