I broadly agree with the op. Gerrard was way out of line commenting as he did. I honestly think that part of him has already left the club. He should have shown a lot more composure than his younger counterparts and, had he done so, through a more measured response, he'd command the respect his past performances fully justified.
To be fair to him, I think the whole business of how we lost the title race and the subsequent departure of Suarez, has left him a little jaded. He's certainly not showing any kind of leadership doing what he did.
Henderson as captain is something a lot of us have mixed feelings about. Whether it should be Can, him, or someone else, is widely debated already. Personally, I'm not sure he's the right man but it's difficult to see what happens behind the scenes and in the shadows. Judging by what happened re-the pen (where the right person took it, no doubt) he has yet to earn the authority and gravitas he'll need to be captain. Saying that, not many captains to be have to deal with a Mario type character. Replacing SG in this context is going to be difficult for anyone. Had Lovren been closer to what we'd hoped, he might have been in the frame - but at the moment, he isn't. We have a load of starlets and one or two work horses in Hendo and Can - and the only potential captains - unless we buy one in the summer.

At least there is someone whose got the balls to say what he wants unlike some.

It was a cheap shot and all the more remarkable given that he knew Mario was to take the pens if he wasn't on the pitch. Whatever motivated him to do what he did, it didn't involve team building or showing leadership.

Have it out at training by all means but what he did was wrong.

stupid comment from someone who probably does not like mario very much
better to have said it behind close doors, but henderson behaved like a captain
Gerrard could learn a lot

Too much of a soap opera made of this. SG got caught up in the moment as a pundit and probably wishes he'd kept quiet. BR has backed Balotelli - Hendo only seemed rattled when Sturridge got involved. We scored, we won the game, the best penalty taker took it - nothing else matters. Exactly!!

Wonder if Gerrard will be allowed into the commentary studio tomorrow?
I somehow doubt Gerrard will be making a repeat experience as a pundit on any channel for the rest of the season.

Gerrard is leaving - he's a club legend - I'm sure everyone will let this pass. You do wonder though, why did he not keep his mouth shut? Does he have an agenda against Balotelli? I don't care if he is leaving, you don't create a shiitstorm before you leave. His comments were unnecessary as they not only scrutinised Balotelli, they put question marks on Hendersen who is suppose to be our future captain.
