I respectfully disagree with you Wilki! You can reference this by all means end of season but I am going to stick my neck out and say that if we have aspirations to be champions and we lose this game we will have to beat both Chelsea and Man City at Anfield to square it.
They are both formidable already and both managers are better/more adjusted to the league now. There will be less slip ups by both of them this season.
Some need a serious reality check as to how good they will be this season for sure. There is a good piece in the Telegraph today- we bought and are a work in progress they bought the finished article. There are valid and honourable reasons for this for sure but that doesn't change the facts.

I'm not of the opinion that we'll fight for the title this year. After loosing Suarez and buying all those players, I just don't see it happening. I think we'll be top 4 though as I think we're better than Utd, Everton and Spurs.
Anyway, I think we'll beat Spurs. But if we don't, for me it's not season over. Still 35 more games to go after this one.

It's not yet a must win. It's only the third game ffs! It won't say much of anything about us if we do t win it.
I'd go 2 up top with Mario being able to play (if fit enough) no real reason not too. It'll certainly give them a bit more to think about. FFS we demolished them last year and even if they have improved, we should be able to win even with a one goal difference. I also thought that new managers needed time to settle. They have 3 points more than us and they will probably be competing with us for CL position. Of couse we need to win or maybe we should just wait until Jan to beat our main rivals. What's this BS attitude of not being too bothered with not winning? I would understand against a team like City where I would have taken a draw anytime, but not against a team we demolished last year and whose manager has just arrived. Of course I'm bothered about loosing. I'm just not drama queening it up like you. It's the third game of a 38 game season. If we loose it doesn't mean the season is over even if it is to a potential rival for the top 4. They will slip up as will City and your beloved Chavs. There's a long way to go win loose or draw. I do think we'll win though. Not like last year but just don't think they're good enough at the back. And they may have looked good but it was against a shitty West Ham and QPR. Not a real test IMO. I am not drama queening anything and that game is a real test to us testing if we have improved over last season. You can forget about 1st and 2nd as it will be Chelsea and City and losing against City away was not a surprise to me, this game is much more important as it will be against one of the rivals for 3rd or 4th place. Their manager should still be finding his ways (the great BR took a full season) so not winning this game will be a major setback.

So for you, anything less than the 5 we got last season isn't an improvement?
And what will loosing this game be a major setback for? You already said we can forget about the top 2 places.

I said any win even by one goal difference. The setback would be that our rival ( for CL position) will have a psychological advantage over us and losing 2 games on the trot will have a major negative impact on us, you watch. Now if you believe it losing there won't be a big issue, good for you.

I'm sure we'll see the same [oops] week in week out from you as we did last season. Loosing, which I don't think we will, will not end our season. Not with 35 games to go! You're going on like they'll not loose another game and we won't win another!

I know. It's only the third game and it's quite pathetic to think that way already. Loosing won't be great but not the end for us and certainly won't mean they've beaten us to the top 4.

I never said that the City game was a must win, in fact, I expected to be beaten and was ready to take a draw if offered.

----------sturridge---------- Markovic Hendo sterling --------Gerrard Can------------ Moreno Lovren skrtl Flanagan
That would leave us with a strong bench including balotelli, coutinho
If flano is not fit then manquillo
Most likely.I would also like to see CAN and Markovic start
Steven Gerrard: Heartbeat of LFC.
