ok. apologies. I'm just in a mood to have a laugh tonight.
but seriously... let me think.
we need a settled defence with two decent centre halves. Skrtle is headless sometimes, agger is too injury prone, Toure is good as a backup type. We need players like Kompany, Vidic, Terry... no nonsense, head screwed on.
We need quality midfielders. Lucas is good but his game is limited. Gerrard is fine but not the supreme leader he was.
Front line is good, but one more quality striker is required.
and we need players with mental strength and discipline. e.g. I didn't like the way Stevie G was in the papers this week saying how well Rodgers had done:
1. we would really expect him to say that BR was rubbish would we?
2. but more importantly, no player should be making judgements about the incumbent manager. Managers are there to make judgments about players not the other way around.
So I think we lack the mentality as individuals and as a group as well as talent. That's been the case for years... going back to the spice boys era.

I've watched Liverpool for over twenty years and I'm felling optimistic for the first time in a long time. I have felt this way before in 2001 and 2005 and neither time did we kick on to the next level. But I really feel the club are addressing the problems.

yes, I do feel we're a way off. various reasons:
- the club is not totally united. Fans don't quite trust FSG, the manager doesn't always see eye to eye with them and the fans aren't totally convince by the manager yet either.
- I'm not sure if the players are totally united. we had that before with Gerrard and esp Carragher perhaps not on the same wavelength as the foreign players. It might not be so bad now.
- we lack players of quality, confidence, self belief and mental strength
- we lack strength in depth.
Hence we can be good every now and then, but not over a long enough period.
I think we're only in touch now because the other teams have underperformed. From what I head about arsenal's performance the other night, I'd say we're mile away from being a top quality side.

Personally, i am startiing to doubt Stevie a bit nowadays. Has his willingness to give it all gine? He seems to be lacking the drive and leadership that made him so great for us, but I fear he is losing that winning mentality.

Looking at our squad the only players who would make it in to a League winning side are Sakho, Suarez and possibly Coutinho. So we're still way off yet.
We need to start looking at replacing Johnson and Gerrard, we need another Left Back, someone to challenge Lucas; preferably to take his place in the team, an Attacking Midfielder/ Second Striker, A seasoned Right Winger as well as cover for this position as Sterling and Ibe are nowhere near ready yet, A seasoned Left winger and a strong target man.
We also need to get rid of the Championship level guf which is plaguing the team.

I'd say for a real title challenge, we need:
1) a Yaya Toure type beast in the centre of the field
2) an AM e.g. Mata
and then to have a good chance at winning it throw in a winger, maybe that Konoplyanka as someone mentioned above

If Madrid pay 55 million in Jan for Suarez, then i would think top four is beyond us for another year. but that kind of money is 3 very good players that might help us next season.
Lucas, Gerrard, Johnson, Enrique all need replacing. Gerrard needs another player who is more dynamic and can score goals as we cant have Lucas and Gerrard lying too far back in every game. Johnson is getting injured more often and he is hitting 30 soon. Enrique makes too many mistakes and we get no goals and terrible crosses from him.
Heard we are looking at Jeremy Menez from PSG - left winger.

I certainly hope we are not, he is a good player but also very inconsistent. I am yet to see a poor performance from Konoplyanka.As far as losing Suarez and our title push being over, I disagree, with him or without him, I think we still have quality. he has only featured in 1 PL game this season. Obviously if he left, he would need replacing, but I think there are plenty of options.
