I disagree. Players like Gerrard and Suarez are tougher than you give them credit for, and players like Cruyff and Pele did fine with skill over power. Dalglish was hardly the most physically imposing player, but he did quite well in a very physical era of English football. Suarez grew up playing on the streets of Uruguay, and there is a very streetfighter quality to him. He's a strong player, and I think he would get just as many nutmegs and run circles by just as many people. To hurt him, they'd have to catch him.
You raise another point though. Players like Souness were absolutely filthy players (though great), punching people's lights out when they cameras weren't on them, but they didn't face the same level of scrutiny that players do now. They could hide from the officials and the cameras much easier. Imagine the sh*tstorm that would have caused today, when Suarez get's castrated by the media and banned for 8 matches for the bite that, while weird and low did very little physical harm. have to disagree your judging the likes of Gerrard and Suarez toughness in today's game which is totaly different as its a softies game now, you also mention Suarez can nutmeg back then but he would never get away with it back then, he may of got the ball past big Jack Charlton but there is no way he would go past too, another point there is no way Messi would be able to run with the ball like he does in today's game without the likes of Ron Harris, Norman Hunter or Tommy Smith snapping him in half. It's a good debate which has points for and against but for me the prayers of yesteryear would have more chance of adapting and being good in todays game than the players of today going back to proper football times. When Gerrard first started playing, the league was still very physical. I've never seen him or Carra back down from a tackle. I don't think saying that players couldn't run with the ball back then is fair either. Cruyff, Dalglish, Maradona, Pele, and many other players made their names out of skillful dribbling and clever skill rather than brute force, and lack of physicality didn't keep teams like Holland or Brazil from beating the pants off of England. Remember, Dutch total football was taking the world by storm, and Liverpool played pass and move, not punch and tackle. I agree to an extent that the game has lost something now that they are so strict about challenges, but from your comments, it sounds as though would be much happier watching boxing or MMA than football. dont know why your bringing up boxing as it had nothing to do with the discussion, I just prefer my football when it was a mans game that's all. I can't stand the way all these pansy players of today get pampered, they are protected from tackles, they are rested, get bowling greens to play on and are treated like kings or queens in there cases. The stamina, fitness and strenghth of yesteryear players far outweighs today's players considering successful clubs players played 70 odd game seasons, played with injuries, had to endure pitches which sapped every ounce of energy,balls which felt like concrete to head and clubs not wiping there noses or ar*es for them everytime they sneezed.

It was a joke, mate. Ease up. I said I agree the game has lost something, but your post made it sound like you don't want to see players do skillful things with a football, just see players break other players in half haha.
I think the game could stand to be a bit more physical nowadays, but do you really want to go back to the terrible pitches and the concrete balls? Do you really not want to see Messi's magic feet? We've lost something, but there are also more goals and fewer leg-breaking ending tackles that ruin men's futures and careers. I think nostalgia is tinting your glasses a bit, but that's only my opinion and therefore subjective.

Its not spelling errors that's fundamental English. I see that guy vish from Mauritius and his English is perfect and then you see us Brits who can't write in our own language. Yes we all make spelling errors especially with predictive text but for for gods sake.
The British education system is a joke and I see it everyday on social media we are a nation of dunderheads

It's really laughable how angry people get when they're asked to take the time to write in their native language correctly. Why should we bother having schools at all if no one wants to communicate coherently?

I think nostalgia is tinting your glasses a bit, but that's only my opinion and therefore subjective. but the heavy pitches were a leveller you only have to look at how many top teams won at the old Baseball Ground which never had a blade of grass on it even in the summer, those types of pitches also provided many a great giant killing upset like Hereford knocking out the might Newcastle. Football should be about strong hard tackling I know when I used to watch Graeme Souness crunch Bryan Robson it was celebrated as much as a goal. The fitness and toughness of players years ago outweighs the levels of today's players, imagine the players of today trying to compete a 78 game season on those pitches back then whilst surviving those tackles, not a chance in hell.
