Anyhow...
I do believe that last season was better than the previous. I see the cups as a distraction of the real competition. (they mean something yes, but even Wigan won and I would say their season is a failure) We started the season as we finished the last, and people were talking about relegation. I am now feeling far more positive and even believe that 4th/5th is possible.
I'll put it down now, 65 points is my acceptance level, above 70 and i'll be happy

As you were saying, the cups might be a distraction and going to 2 finals took it's toll on our league performance with KD. However, I was happier then as we were still fighting for something till late May while last season all interest was lost in Feb or latest early March, the worst season I can remember.

Did you actually watch the league games at the end of the season?
I felt like my sole was being destroyed. It was despair and torture.

Last season on the other hand I was expecting, with nothing to play for, that we would lose every game or at least look disinterested. It has me feeling more positive for the future.

Yes I did watch and also saw the difference between games played before the Arsenal home game in March i think, and after that. Do you remember that game which we should have won easily if we took our chances but lost to 2 incredible goals from RVP. The difference is that at the end of the season last year we had nothing to play for in the league but everything to play for in the cup, while last season the last games looked like a preparation for next season.

Rodgers messed up big time last season by dismissing the cups, if he does the same this season he will be gone by Xmas, a good season for us is a top 7 finish and picking up one of the domestic cups, I would settle for that each season given as that's all we are as a football club now.

I hate the Europa League, so top 4 is when I accept things. I actually believe that 4th/5th is our realistic current challenge, and I am not talking about the squad but the club.
Only when we are in this position do I believe we can attract the players to have the squad quality to invest in the cup runs without being detrimental to the season.

My reasoning...
We can't compete with Chelsea or ManCity. ManUtd have stupid revenues, but other than Arsenal with their stadium costs there is nobody else in touching distance.

Spurs and Everton are only where they are because they sold key players and built a better squad on the back of the money. Westham could get a stadium and close the gap.

We need to dispose of arsenal or spurs to achieve 4th.

That's possible but FSG will have to dip their hands in their pockets

The clubs spend is something like 3rd behind City and Chelsea since FSG took over.
Arsenal and Spurs hardly spend anything, other than through sales.

What we need is transfers that make the squad stronger and not have massive losses from bad deals. If we get that right we will overtake its just a matter of time. You need to try to be more positive and maybe move location from Grimsville as its not good for your health.

true we are not their right now but if we get back consistently in the top 4 we can regain our status and respect. and the history we have will come again to set us apart from our rivals in the top.

- Juventus are respected again as the top team in Italy
- Dortmund are talked about as as Byern's rival after only 3 top seasons and bring up the mid 90's glories, and they managed to lure a player away from us.

no point in lamenting ourselves all the time

we had a very good 2nd halve last season after everyone got their measure and new players came in, this time we have 4 new players and more to come, and the disappointing players are out or face new and better competition. this time we begin the season with wiser manager and a bigger more talented squad.
