I agree to me its pointless supporting a team you never see live. But that's just my opinion in the sense of personal preference. It is true the top clubs are global and the sponsorship is global which brings on the money to keep te club going. But then the club becomes extraordinary expensive to attend matches live and now is only the preserve of the rich. So what do we gain from globalism ? Even if we were winning titles (which we are not) for me its hard to see what the underlying benefit is. Yes clubs exist to win trophies (actually now that's not true they exist to make speculators money) but even if it were true what is the point of the club if the ordinary fans are shut out the door? Rather this situation I would rather liverpool were in the championship. I know a couple of guys who follow Preston and they love it its something like £200 a year. I know some will say well go and follow Preston then but that's not the point is it? Read the paperbacks on the Liverpool fans following the club from the 70,s and 80,s what is that replaced with ? Watching a tv channel. I am not saying that is right or wrong it's just I find it sad and misses the true point of following a team for me. The Irish fans by the way have always followed Liverpool at anfield right back to the 60's Liverpool and Dublin have very close links and it is said Liverpool is Ireland's most easterly city Here we go...

We play in these countries because Liverpool is a worldwide club whether you like it or not and sponsors dictate where we play.
Without the worldwide fanbase, we cannot get big sponsors and without sponsors we loose out on a lot of money which is needed to pay for wages and transfers.
You may take it for granted but not every fan from these countries can afford to go Anfield, so these trips are important to them and may be their only opportunity to see the reds live. tell me how it has benefited us on the pitch playing all these pointless friendlies in countries that don't really understand football, if you say we make money then where has this money helped us when we finish 7th every season, if you say it gives fans a chance to see the team then they should either save and come to Anfield or choose a club which they can actively support as for me there is no point unless you can go and watch them, this is just my point of view. Coolalbertcase! I'm worried about you mate. Liverpool have been doing these tours for a while now, and and have had a global fan bas for decades. I'm worried about the chip on your shoulder, I just would have thought that you would have got used to it by now. I feel sorry for you chap. Aren't you the one telling others that they live in the past to much, when you haven't got used to the global fan base.

The Irish fans by the way have always followed Liverpool at anfield right back to the 60's Liverpool and Dublin have very close links and it is said Liverpool is Ireland's most easterly city fantastic post stanley as usual, level headed and realistic, I for one would rather the Club slip down the divisions if it meant I could still actively support them rather than them win Leagues and Champions leagues and watch on the outside or on the telly, there is no point and no substitute than actualy going. I disagree with the Ireland link a bit tho as I question there motives, the only reason they attach themselves to United and ourselves is because they come from a non footballing country where the league and standard of football is so poor, the Scots are poor too but they are very loyal to there football and leagues and would rather support there own teams like Arbroath, East Sterling and Partick Thistle than attatch themselves to English teams due to fame or success, just the way I see it myself tho. As a narrow minded bigot,of course you'd see it way.same old crap.
That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

Your right the Club has been doing it for years and your also right in that the Club has this so called global fanbase which for me is flawed, I will ask the question again, where had these tours against no mark teams and backwater footballing countries benefited us and how has this global fanbase which provides so called money helped us considering we are dropping down the league season by season and further off the title points wise than ever.

Where are the backwater countries that you are talking about? I'm not sure how other countries are benefiting. I very much doubt that all the funds that we receive are from Liverpool.

Some people need to be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming. no problem whatsoever going into the 21st century as u call it if it benefits us, if not dont bother as we are certainly worse off, global hasn't helped us on the pitch has it, we were far better and more successful when we were in the 70s and 80s when it was prodominantl more local.

But then united are far better of with their global revenue. Just like us. If Liverpool was just followed by Liverpudlians then we would be like Sunderland. Fact is, Liverpool did well back then because the rules were different. These days, we just need to accept that we have just made poor decision for too long and it caught up to the club. Get over it.

Liverpool always had a wide following even in the 70's.
I am frm Cheshire and all my mates were Liverpool or utd. Probably same as today.
But there was not the world thing.

Not sure where your getting your info from albertdock but football is actually the most popular sport in ireland for both being played and watched and has been for some time. Especially the epl. But dont let something silly like the truth get in the way of your narrow minded views.
