The Club must be seriously hard up for money to be wanting to play friendlies in places like Ireland unless ofcorse they are trying to introduce the beautiful game there, it's a wonder they don't try to investigate playing games in places like India as that hasn't been really opened up to the game of football either. Come on.cool that's not really fair is it? What's up with you man?

What's up with you man? just blatent ways making money and I don't think it should all be about that, like the game in Austrailia and the one in South Africa, what's the point they are not even footballing countries, they are just putting up the cash that's all. I would rather us stay in this country to prepare for the new season as we will get better tests and fitness levels playing against lower league English clubs, afterall surely what sets us up better for the start of the season is more important than how much money we make.

albertdock lets get one thing straight, England are as much as a footballing nation as Ireland. The big footballing nations of the world are Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Italy and now Germany just as much. England dont get a mention, without foreigners the EPL is scrap, also your the only person i know who slags off their own team and own country constantly, im sensing some rejection issues somewhere along the way? Especially because ast your age you keep gettin banned and making a new account straight away, surely a man of your status has better things to do than discuss football with us mere minions?
No,this is not a good town for psychedelic drugs.Reality itself is too twisted.
We can't stop here, this is bat country!

I know that Clubs like Barca and United play these pointless games in these types of footballing backwater countries to make money but those clubs benefit from that in that they go on to win Leagues and Champions Leagues, we do neither, the only thing we get out of it is jetlag or are players are tired. I think we would benefit more playing your Burnley away than some Norway team, Wolverhampton Wanderers than a game on the other side of the world in Austrailia against some team they pulled out the bush, a game against Preston than one against a mickey mouse Celtic team in a country more famous for hockey and games against Tranmere Rovers than some of these clubs from Bangkok or Singapore, like I say this is just my opinion, we have played all those daft pointless games before for money and it has'nt benefited us for the start of the season, time for a re-think.

We play in these countries because Liverpool is a worldwide club whether you like it or not and sponsors dictate where we play.
Without the worldwide fanbase, we cannot get big sponsors and without sponsors we loose out on a lot of money which is needed to pay for wages and transfers.
You may take it for granted but not every fan from these countries can afford to go Anfield, so these trips are important to them and may be their only opportunity to see the reds live.

Do you actually know anything about Australia? By these comments, I'd say no.

I agree to me its pointless supporting a team you never see live. But that's just my opinion in the sense of personal preference. It is true the top clubs are global and the sponsorship is global which brings on the money to keep te club going. But then the club becomes extraordinary expensive to attend matches live and now is only the preserve of the rich. So what do we gain from globalism ? Even if we were winning titles (which we are not) for me its hard to see what the underlying benefit is. Yes clubs exist to win trophies (actually now that's not true they exist to make speculators money) but even if it were true what is the point of the club if the ordinary fans are shut out the door? Rather this situation I would rather liverpool were in the championship. I know a couple of guys who follow Preston and they love it its something like £200 a year. I know some will say well go and follow Preston then but that's not the point is it? Read the paperbacks on the Liverpool fans following the club from the 70,s and 80,s what is that replaced with ? Watching a tv channel. I am not saying that is right or wrong it's just I find it sad and misses the true point of following a team for me. The Irish fans by the way have always followed Liverpool at anfield right back to the 60's Liverpool and Dublin have very close links and it is said Liverpool is Ireland's most easterly city

I disagree with the Ireland link a bit tho as I question there motives, the only reason they attach themselves to United and ourselves is because they come from a non footballing country where the league and standard of football is so poor, the Scots are poor too but they are very loyal to there football and leagues and would rather support there own teams like Arbroath, East Sterling and Partick Thistle than attatch themselves to English teams due to fame or success, just the way I see it myself tho.
