Barcelona have confirmed the capture of highly-rated Brazil starlet Neymar on a five-year contract.

Neymar has been linked to some of Europe's biggest clubs - including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich - in recent years, but declared his preference was to remain with Santos in his homeland until after the 2014 World Cup.

However, Santos announced on Friday evening that they had accepted two offers, allowing the 21-year-old to complete his move to Europe.

Barcelona followed in the early hours of Sunday morning with the announcement of Neymar's signing.

A club statement read: "FC Barcelona and Santos have agreed to terms for Neymar da Silva Santos Junior. The Brazilian forward will don the Blaugrana strip for the next five seasons. The 21-year old is one of the most promising footballers on the planet."

Neymar also confirmed his decision, writing on Instagram: "I'm here with friends and family and they have helped me to write a few things here. I'm not going to hold out until Monday. My family and friends already know my decision. On Monday I will sign a contract with Barcelona."

Agree with all of that Suso, apart from the last part - the only thing I ever disliked about GH was his and Thommo's treatment of Fowler.

the treatment of fowler was just one of the things that turned me into disliking our manager. the biggest issue i had was his insistent on his player ( the players that he had bought in) would come good even though it was clear to see they were just not up to the job. I HATED the was heskey would get the nod over fowler but never score and houllier would come along say heskey is world class all he needs is confidence. thats all well and good but he was saying the same cr@p every other game for about two seasons. i was over the moon when he got the chop. it should of been done the previous season

It's confirmed on the official site as well so that's two central defenders gone and Skrtel making noises about going. If there was ever an injury crisis affecting the first team squad CB's Wilson was probably the most experienced of the reserves in that position, I would like to see him replaced by Tiago Ilori who the press have been linking us to for a while (and not Alex Pearce who has also been linked!)
