I'd say its hard to define a real fan as we all come from different backgrounds. However if you were to determine it you could get all the people on this forum, but them in a situation where they live about 50 miles outside of Liverpool, are all single and all earn the same wedge. Then offer them a season ticket and see who takes it. That's the only real way to determine how big a fan someone is and that will never happen so its a bit of an endless speculatory loop.

Liverpool Football Club is going around making Twitter pages for different countries and regions , in different languages to increase their fan base , and there are some people who are saying that the fans who do not live in the city are not true fans , honestly that is very insulting and disgraceful. I think the love for LFC and the love for football is the most important thing , football unites people and does not segregate them by their nationality , race or religion. to be fair no one has said that have they. but the club is a commercial business and needs your money wherever you are from. that is undeniable. i also feel the experience is different and no one should think watching on the tv is the same as going to the game. I hugely admire fans such as marko who travel to the uk from serbia to see the reds that i would class as a real fan even though he does not go to every game i am sure he would if he lived in the uk.

I understand your point Faz and it is well articulated and nicely put. Now with all respect and understanding for you and your family along with your tradition of support for LFC I can understand and acknowledge that you might feel, rightly so, that you are perhaps a more passionate fan of the club. One point which needs consideration though I fans such as myself, who have no history of LFC support in their family, but rather fell in love with LFC an all it represents and stands for. I chose myself to support LFC due to the likes of Carra and Gerrard and their passion and loyalty which to me represented true values in life. I have been supporting LFC for over 2 decades and consider myself a true fan. I am sure there are many on here who feel the same way as I do and whilst your post and explanation is perfectly respectable and fair, for every post like that on here there seem to be 2 or 3 which fail to put things across so fairly and respectably and simply dismiss OOT's as fake and not real/true fans which is obviously ridiculous. I enjoyed reading your post and it's been great to be able to have a discussion with someone who is able to put their point across in such a fair manner. I hope I managed to explain my point of view as well.

I am planning to go for the last home game vs QPR . Yes what u said is true, but many of the people cannot afford to go for a game , many fans in some countries cannot even afford the original shirt , that does not make him less of a fan. I know nothing can beat the anfield experience , but if u ever get to come and watch a match screening in this part of the world u will be amazed.

just a little side post , a question is it just all about LFC its self as a football club , or do you reds who are not from the local area take an interest in the daily issues of the city , merseyside and the north west as well as the day to day issues of the football club .????

even in the old days shankly's time fans came from outside liverpool we travelled 30 miles regularly back then to stand on the kop. so people from all over supporting liverpool is nothing new. and there were no cars in those days as well we went on the bus which took 2 to 3 hours

Very good point Sunit, in Serbia the case is the same, many vans cannot afford to even go out to McDonalds with their kids, let alone an original kit or a trip to the game and a ticket. I am amongst the lucky ones who can but I do knowany fans who cannot. Yet every week they are watching the games and supporting Liverpool. For many here watching LFC and our victories is one of their only sources of pure happiness, besides their families of course. I think many do not realize just how hard it is when your monthly income is around 350 pounds and you have a wife and kid to support. I had to save up for over 10 years to be able to afford the trip, accommodation, ticket etc. Sure 350 pounds is enough for me to live here in serbia for a month, excluding rent, but when I come to the UK I have to pay UK prices, not Serbian.
