He's the ONLY man who's managed to do that in almost 20 years, since the mid 90s under Evans. Houllier, Hodgson, Dalglish and so far Rodgers (very early days obviously) have all failed to mount a serious title challenge, so to criticise Benitez for "only" managing to do it once in 6 years is an outrageous comment , especially when you consider he won the Champions League, FA Cup, got us to another Champions League Final, a League Cup Final, and got us to the semis or quarters of the CL regularly in the other 5 years. Very short memory, my friend.

Sorry faz, compare the squad Rafa left us with to the squad we have now. No comparison in quality, imo. Did he make some mistakes in the tranfers market? Of course he did? Did he make some fantastic signings for us? F*cking right he did.

You wouldn't believe someone could actually think that would you. It was embarrassing when fans were first calling for him to be sacked, and now that they have been proven to be so wrong - they continue to argue their point in some sort of attempt to justify the damage his sacking has done to the club.

To be honest Faz the only thing I agree with you on is that that the decline really started when Benitez left.

You'll never get me to admit Rafa wasn't the best thing to have happened to our club over the past 20 years, however, I have a feeling you'll never agree with me on that smile

I hope BR can be the man to unite the club again - but the early signs aren't looking to promising.

If i am not mistaken the in fighting between rafa and carragher was regarding the contract that jamie wanted, rafa believed jamie had 2years left of playing time and he was spot on,mascharano left during hodgon's time if i am not mistaken again, yes rafa made mistakes, yes he has made mistakes with his signings BUT it isn't as TERRIBLE as u put it out to be,our squad now is the worst then what it used to be.The decline started because of those useless owners. And to think about it we could have started climbing up the table if we had proper management and ambitions post H&G.

Absolutely right - the fact he qualified for the CL in 5 out of the 6 seasons he managed us is irrelevant. I'm soooooo much happier now we're sitting in 10th...
we only played in the champions League because there was no Manchester City back then, if there was we would never of played Champions League under Benitez, surely you are honest enough to admit that at the time there was just a big three and we were the best of the rest who claimed the final and fourth Champions League place, thats all it was...

Benitez was provided with enough serious funds to mount more than one title challenge after xmas, like I say I would never in a million years expect Liverpool Football Club to win a title but come on we could at least stay on the coatails of the leading pack up until February or March before falling away, there is no way that is too much to ask for a manager given the resources and funds Benitez had at his disposal, once in six years is a disgrace...

joe i dont agree we achieved champions league status just because back in rafa's time there was no spurs or man city. if the present team were transported back to 2006 there is no way they would get to 4th. rafa's team had far more talent then this one not least caraghaer and gerrard at their peak
