Joe I live and work in Liverpool and have watched (by which I mean at Anfield itself) for 45 years. And been to most of the european finals, FA cup finals and travelled all over europe. I have had a season ticket for 24 years.
If I am not a proper fan then so be it I could not have done more in my life to be one. well if you are a proper fan stanley as you claim to be surely you will understand how daft a statement you have just made by saying to me in not so many words that if I am unhappy I should just walk away, if as you say you are a proper fan you know you cant just walk away just like you cant just walk away from other important things in life like family, religion or maybe politics, if something is that important to you and your life has revolved around it that long walking away is never an option, you claim to understand the City then you should know what a stupid statement you have just made to me knowing full well I am from the City. Of course you can walk away and I will do just that. I love Liverpool FC but if it gets too expensive or even stays as it is I may simply not have the money. Liverpool FC is important to me but in the prorities of life not even in the top three. thats fine stanley, if you dont have the finances then you can just walk away, but I bet you wont disattatch yourself emotionaly from the Club like you are telling me to do, thats the difference. I openly admit here in 2012, I am more unhappy with the Club than happy with it, the most important things being I dont like the owners, I dont like the prices, I dont agree with tarting the old ground up because we dont have the money to build a new stadium, I dont like that we no longer compete for the games big honours and I dont like the fact that we are now a firmly established mid table Club with no real hope that this situation will change in the not too distant future. I do like the manager, I do like the type of football he is trying to implement, I do enjoy watching Sterling, Suso and Martin Kelly e.t.c. but like I say there is more bad than good surrounding the club at present, I carry on renewing my season ticket because I live in hope that one day that will change because we are all sentimental romantics up to a certain point, deep down I know it wont change tho, we are too far gone for me.

I don't like those things either Joe. I will always follow Liverpool even from my TV screen. But it no longer means what it did and maybe that is a factor of getting older and maybe wiser. I consider myself lucky that I could see the club not only when they were the best team in europe but mere mortals could go to Anfield and see them in the flesh.

But there will likely come a day Joe when you can't afford it no more. Unless you are very well off which you might be for all I know.

what is the "top" ? is it being champions ? or just qualifying for the CL ? because in my opinion liverpool have had 3 title challenges since 1990 , 1997 was the closest for me as it was in liverpool hands with a couple of games to go , and 2002 and 09 when it wasnt , so what is top ? Top is challenging every year and sometimes winning it, and the teams who are there right now are United, City and Chelsea.

Quite an animated thread.
By the way - calling someone an idiot is namecalling I suppose - but what if you call their comment idiotic - then is it a passable adjective.
Hey Joe - you need to work on your coolness brother red. Don't go dissing Stanley Park without knowing the facts - he's a veritable icon on this site. I'm sure he has the 12" of the Anfield Rap. Bet he has Kevin Keegan's Head Over Heels too!
Some props for AussieRed - who is spot on with his optimism. People talk as if current form and placement will hold forever - but football is in flux lads. Things will shift and mutate and we can get back in the mix with a solid plan of action. We're playing some decent stuff here and there - and we have some exciting kids coming through thick and fast.
Keep walking on! would never intentianaly say anythin bad to stanley, I really like his views and think they are fair and balanced, just find it very insulting when somebody not just him but anybody tells me to go and do something else instead of watching my Club just because I am not happy with things going on or around the Club during these turbulent times thats all. I would challenge any Liverpool supporter to say they are happy with whats gone on over the last 20 years both on and off the pitch apart from some very sporadic flirts with success.

Keep walking on! Brilliant record that one. And yes I do have it just played it on my hi fi system with a glass of brandy. I don't mind admiting it there was a tear in my eye. Must have been some dust in my eye.
