I thought you wanted the 1st team played?
its a very good competition for us to win, probably the best thing a Club like ours will ever do so for our manager to treat it like he did tonite by showing it no respect even though we claimed a victory is in my book not right. Once the team was on the pitch I did enjoy watching the youthful innocence of attitude the young team played with, like I say quite refreshing but no way does it alter the fact our manager took the p*ss out of the competition by leaving all those first teamers at home. If you make it a public priority to play the strongest side in the Premier League (which we have done), how is it taking the [oops]? I would imagine that owners have told Brendan to prioritise the league and use the cups as a stepping stone for young players. We might not agree with that strategy, but it is what it is. If it can help us get another Sterling into the side, I won't complain. as supporters what hope or enjoyment are we going to have ever in football if we dont take the Cups serious, unless ofcorse you see finishing anywhere between 7th and 12th with no Cups as an achievement. because lets face it the only glory we are ever going to have as a football Club is doing well in the Europa, F.A.Cup or Capital One Cup and if our manager continues to take the p*ss out of those competitions by fielding weakend sides we will never win anything ever again.

The day a Liverpool team does not take the league seriously is the time to pack up. What nonsense it must have been a shattering blow Ged Rodgers won tonight with a weakened team it must have ruined your night?

I have faith that we can threaten for a league title again, sometime within the next five years or so.
I can live with that, even if I would prefer success sooner (of course). But if we can develop a side through the successful use of our academy, then that will be a much bigger victory to me than going all in to win the Carling.

All games against Utd, league or cup, should be all in efforts. I think we'll do all we can to win the game against them and I think we'll do enough.

Now because of this we have to look at what we can achieve as a football club, the priorities are no longer the same as they where in the 70's and 80s like you seem to think just like Everton and Spurs dont deal in those targets also. The best we can hope for now is top 8 finishes and domestic cups with kind draws this is all we are as a football Club now even though you and I and millions of fans dont like it, unfortunately thats the way it is. If us sacrifycing finishing in say 7th place in exchange for finishing say 10th and it means winning the Europa League or F.A.Cup then am sorry I would snatch your hand off for that because I want a bit of glory and a good day out, what else do we have to look forward to otherwise.

I think this "being broke" thing is being over played. None of us know how much money is in the coffer or if the Clint Dempsey deal fell apart because of lack of funds or something else.
If we had money to make a bid for Damiao, I am fairly certain we could have (over)paid for Dempsey.
It's not like FSG are known for being miserly at the Red Sox or during Kenny's reign.
I'll agree that our squad is currently not wide enough that we can threaten a top three, but like I said earlier, it would be wonderful to develop a squad through the academy and a few choice purchases along the way.

Certainly other clubs will poach players from us from time to time, but they can't do so without compensating us. I mean, Raheem is obviously the poster boy example and there were already rumors in preseason about valuations of up to 7.5 million. Since then he's become a starter in the senior squad and has been pulled up for England. Don't want to sell him, but if he were to get snatched up he would demand a fairly hefty fee. Arsenal "succeeds" even though they sell a bunch of their players.

I doubt very much that BR doesn't take the Europa comp seriously! He knows more so than any of us what our players are capable of and I believe he put out a side that he thought would get us a result and they did! He has clearly stated that the PL is our priority, regardless of where we will finish, and giving the younger players the opportunity to play is a credit to him because he believed they could do the job! And they did. This experience will hold the club in good stead moving into the future and will add depth to our currently limited squad so we won't have to fork out cash to increase depth. It will allow the club to spend larger amounts on fewer but better quality players in positions on the pitch where are weak! It's all about te bigger picture, building for the future and raising LFC back into the top bracket of English and world club football. Just my thoughts!
