Mascherano has just not recovered from the olympics unfortunately, i'm certainly not saying we should get rid or even that people should be criticising him, just it surprises me with the way Liverpool fans seem to turn on there own players alot that he hasn't had more stick this season

Masch is having a poor season - granted. Alonso had a stinker of a season last year. Looked like he'd lost pace and his game really suffered. He then came back stronger than ever this season and is possibly our player of the year so far. Masch will come back next season better for the experience of this one. Rafa - i take your point on Lucas. We were thin on the bench at midfield and granted he was probably the only option. However, he has been consistently very poor all year and does not seem to offer much to the team. Fans on his back at this stage probably doesn't help the lad but he is so frustrating to watch. A bit like Luis Garcia without the priceless goals in big games!!

Well if that's the way you look at things There would be no Gerrard, owen, Fowler. I'm not having a go at lucas but I do feel Spearing deserves a chance in there

And I also said Spearing does deserve a chance. I like to give lots of players a chance. But he obviously isn't better than Lucas in the opinion of the Liverpool coaching staff. Nor is he better in mine yet, so don't act so shocked smile

thats all very well but our best player is without a doubt carragher and he was never an outstanding talent in the way gerrard, owen and fowler were ......... now look at him though - he is the heartbeat of the side - spearing is a very similar player to carragher - he needs games to improve and he deserves to get them

He's one of the most complete central defenders in the game, even John Terry calls him the best Centre-back in the Premiership.

for the time being he'd still be the 2nd (after Reina) player I put on the team sheet for every game.

I agree a team of Carraghers wouldn't be the most free-scoring in the game though smile

actually carra was a top quality striker as a kid .... i have seen him play everywhere except keeper and never once has he looked out of place

he is our best player without a shadow of a doubt - the only ones i could see any argument for being better than him are gerrard and torres .... i certainly can't see 4 or 5 players better than him .... i can't even think of that many in the prem .... i think you do him a disservice the lad is a far better player than anyone gives him credit for .... that is why he can slot into so many positions on the field (like gerrard) because he has so much ability

Credit where credit's due - Lucas played well when he came in last night and got a good reception which is better than booing the lad. Looks a little better since he got his ears lowered too. Maybe that was the problem - hair was in his eyes!!

Lucas needs more time lads. He's got what it takes to be a decent player for Liverpool I reckon - admittedly he's has a poor season but he hasn't hid once which says something of his character.
All players go through a bad spell and he's still very young and learning the game (let along the English game, language and culture). Give him time and confidence and he'll end up proving us all wrong.
