I think it will be a year or so until someone really starts to stand out. Skrtel, Lucas are favorites right now. If Carroll starts to play like 35m then I could see it going to him, but no way in hell will it go to Hendo. Shelvey could snag it in a few years as well. Gerrard is still the captain in my book. He just needs to find a more effective role in the first team Why should Carroll's ability as a player mean anything when it comes to picking the captain? Only on-field leaders become captains, and for me neither of our forwards are captain material in any way, shape, or form. I'm also not one for a defender to be captain, and especially not a keeper. You can't drive the attack from our half, can't get into the heads of our forwards to lift their spirits. By default that leaves Lucas, though I wonder whether he is assertive enough.

If Carroll has a thunderous season next year he gets my vote. Failing that, Lucas. I'd vote for agger but he's always injured

Right now I'm sure Carrol is realizing his party boy life style was fun, but he wants more, he wants to be the best player he can be for LFC. Once he starts concentrating on his game his attitude will follow. He will learn that he has the potential to rally the team behind him and push on. The team will follow the best players because they lead them in 'battle.' Talent doesnt mean good leadership, I dont think Suarez could lead. I think Carrol feels the pressure of the 35m and he will do whatever it takes to make sure that is forgotten and all that people remember is how he helped LFC back to glory and beyond.

Lucas for me, hes been great gives a 110% when playing never gives up on any tackle i think it would be the lift he needs to bring his game to another level as the team depends on him and his contribution is so vital. after all the abuse he got when he just started its the perfect ending to a Cinderella story.

I agree that Carroll could be influential, but not sure about the captain bit. Maybe once he matures he could become a natural leader, but for now he needs to improve his game before being distracted by yet more pressure. Suarez is not a leader - he's far too emotionally involved with the officials, and that's something that his captain should be controlling (and we've not seen that kind of leadership from anyone). Same reason we must disqualify Bellamy, even were he able to play 90 minutes each game. You must have someone who can keep his head, and Lucas at the very least fits that bill.

Glen Johnson anyone?
seems to have matured a hell of a lot as a player and a person.
I will listen, only if your answer contains wisdom

seems to have matured a hell of a lot as a player and a person. Perhaps, but I'm not sure he's influential enough as a player.

Gerrard is still capt. for me but if not him then Reina. I really don't understand why people think a goalie shouldn't be captain. Just having an elastic band around your arm doesn't make you a leader so what difference do it make if a goalie wears it as opposed to a midfielder? Players should lead by example and play with their heart regardless of who the official captain is.

It will still be Gerrard.
Anything else changes the club image too much but with Carragher getting on a bit and less likely to play we need a new deputy who will eventually take over this role. Someone who plays regularly, someone who will shout and encourage others. Skrtel would be ideal as would Reina for this role.
Really need to establish some sort of continuity. The leadership on the pitch has been severely lacking even from Gerrard when he was playing and cost us more points than all those shots that hit the woodwork. But perhaps it could be time to change the captain and let Gerrard concentrate on his own game?
