I see us buying players like Marko has mentioned about above that Comolli got for Spurs. Good players who will improve together. What we don't want though is more £20m gambles like Henderson or Downing. There are players that can be had for £7m like Cahill, Hoilett etc.
I don't see us being able to attract or even having to attract the big names when there are some fantastic honest players out there like Bellamy and Enrique who was about £7m I think.
Too many players of a certain age also look to the last big signing on fee and contract.
If we got the right 4 players in at £10m each I am sure they would be better than the collection of overpriced players we got last year. Between now and the start of next season (not end of August) we need these 4 players. One midfielder, one wide man and two strikers.
I agre with your statement however I think we might only be 2-3 signings away from a top notch team and I really believe those signings will arrive before next season. I think Henderson has had some pretty good displays, some poor ones too but I do think the kid has what it takes to make the big time. Downing has been the real disappointment for me this season but i believe we will see him pick up his form towards the end of the season when he gets used to playing on the right a bit more or when he gets moved to the left after we acquire a proper right winger. Johnson is expected to leave in the summer purely due to his wage demands and I think Kelly will be able to step in although I wouldn't put it past us to get a new RB too. Adam will play a diminished role next season, coming on as back up more than anything else. I expect that we will be quite active in the summer and that we shouldn't look to big names in January as they are usually overpriced and most often do not deliver the goods right away. I really have faith in the project going on at anfield and in FSG. These guys are professionals and they know what they are doing, they are going about their business correctly as far as I am concerned.
I think Kenny should be given until the end of next season to prove he still has what it takes. I know it's very frustrating watching us draw against the so called "lesser teams" but perhaps starting small with ambitions of just 1 trophy this season is the way to go about things. I really harbour high hopes for the League cup and I think getting a trophy in the cabinet would lift a lot of pressure. Another thing Kenny got right was telling the ploayers after the Bolton game that if that's how they plan to play and they don't show commitment, they will be gone sooner rather than later.
I think the values that are needed are slowly starting to return to LFC and despite a frustrating season many many positives can be seen.
