Well well, perhaps this is why Commolli decided to go via Newcastle.. I think this would be a brilliant buy if we can tempt him.

When was the last time we bought someone and cheap who no-one had heard of but turned into a great player?

I.e Newcastle signed Cabaye and Toite and they look class, but we splash 100m and our signings look average.

Great shout.

I'm just getting fed up of us signing the obvious players for a lot of money, where our scouts need to step up.

Agreed. Though fans would moan if we didn't sign known players who can plug the gap instantly, like Downing. It just hasn't worked out so far.

re Bent. I never rated him for some reason, but he still at least knows where the goal is. I never rated Andy Cole either, whenever he had it outside the 6 yard box he looked lost, but again, scored goals.
I do worry with all the fans demanding instant success and signings, we'll go out and get anyone available, like Bent, spend £20m, and then fans will brand him a failure if he doesn't become an instant success.

Think we paid £4m for Riise, which was money well spent. But Cissé I think was £11m, and was Mascherano not about £18m? Hardly cheap.

Cisse was already big in france and Masch was already known but Riise came out of no where.

Would love for a random player to turn up at Melwood who no-one knew and then he runs rings around everyone and sticks the ball in the back of the net.

I think our signings are always desperate instead of bringing in the 'right' player.
