People said the same thing about Torres - including himself in a book full of false claims and outright lies

All players big up the clubs they move to to get the fans onside

I don't think any foreign footballer will stay at any club they move to for life. It's only really the home grown players that will do that. We have Suarez and I can't see that changing for a while but I also don't expect to see him finish his career here. I remember Alonso said he wanted to play in Spain again soon after he came here (at the end of his career) as did Torres about going back to Atletico.

Unlike most posters on this forum who live in a Liverpool-tinged world of their own - he's a realist who has the common sense to recognise that the loyalties that make supporters lifelong fans tend not to apply to foreign players - even when they pretend to (a la Torres)

It's an interesting question - and we all kjnow if Suarez continues to shine and we fail to make trhe champoons league next season, we have a problem.

We kept Torres throughout his explosive spell becausae we consistently got into the champions league - had we not we would have lost him far earlier and I'm sure the same would apply to Suarez

I remember some utter chump going on Talk Sport at the start of last season claiming that there was not a chance of Man City finishing higher than Liverpool. Next day they beat us 3-0. I bet he posts on here - House, Murph maybe

See, i voice my disapproval about all these negative posters and miserable f*cks on here a lot - and this is exactly what i'm talking about.

You people are COMPLETELY and utterly missing the point. I happen to agree with the point raised by this thread. I think if we fail to finish in the top 4 this season and Suarez has a good season, i think we stand a very realistic chance of losing him to a club competing in the CL.

The point - and this is the vital part - is that, while being conscious of this, there's absolutely no need whatsoever to bring it up and talk about it. It just represents a pessimistic, deafeatist, loser attitude. Let me tell you this, you self-proclaimed 'realists' may think you have it nailed with your attitude, but i can guarantee you that if the lads that pull on the Red shirt and walk out on that pitch had the same attitude and train of thought as you do, our club would be doomed to failure forever. It's a poor character trait, to be honest.

Surely a worst character trait is that demonstrated by those who have so much belief (I call it naievity) that they wrongly believe we will easily win the league this upcoming season for the first time in 21 years despite the fact the oppoisition is likely to be stronger than ever and that we've failed with stronger squads in the past (rafa's team of 2008-09 for example)

it suggests that they lack the intelligence to judge things objectively, look at what's happened in the past, and always end up with their tail between their legs come the end of the season - only to say exactly the same thing a month later when the new season starts - and still get taken seriously by the schoolboys looking for something to do during their summer holidays

With shamelessly vocal supporters like this it's no wonder we're the laughing stocks of the Premier League

And besides i don't really see what you are getting at - I believe we have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions league which shoukd be gfood enough to eensite suarez's retention in the short term

What i take issue with is all those who say we can win the league and think that all Kenny has to do is click his fingers and any top player will come to the club when the examples of Torres, Mascherano and even the repulsive Benayoun suggest otherwise

I don't doubt that there are people on here that are genuinely naive, but there are those of us that are realistic but don't feel the need to run the club, it's players, and it's manager into the ground to provide proof of that, or of our own 'superior' intelligence. It just comes across as arrogant and belittling for the most part.

I for one don't feel i need to be told of our capabilities or our realistic targets for the season ahead, and i believe i have a firm grip on what's actually realistically achievable. I just don't feel the need to put on a pessimistic cap. It seems like some people are actually undervaluing our prospects - i dunno, maybe to them, it seems like if they aim low, anything above that is a bonus, and will make them feel better?

You make some sensible points Bar - but how to you equate honestly stating what someone thinks to 'run[ning] the club, it's players, and it's manager into the ground' is beyond me

Not even the most pessimistic supporters are saying Daglish is an awful manager, all the players we have are sh*t or anything that comes close to what you describe

It just angers me when year after year you get the same muppets telling people that they know Liverpool will win the league this season for this reason or that reason, picking fights with those who dare to question that, disappearing when thew season comes to an end and their prediction fails to materialise (as in the last 21 years) and then coming back before the new season and saying the same sh*t again

Why can't Liverpool fans view things objectively

I say what i think

Just because the club I support have signed him I'm not going to all of a sudden say I think Jordan henderson - for example - is a brilliant player and I remember at the time we signed Christian Poulsen i was one of the only people who said it was an awful signing (as I'd seen him azttempting to play for Juventus). Most fans were saying he was an improvement on Mascherano

A forum is to discuss the positives and negatives, for all you people who complain about me being negative bringing up things you dont like there are about ten people on here who make me sick because they are so blind and think the Club is the same one as the one 30 years ago and have a devine right to win leagues and qualify for the champions league despite no real evidence, the players who they think are better than they are and Kenny Dalglish who is only here purely and simply because of what he done as a player and 25 years ago as a manager instead of what he is capable of now. So you see my opinions balance out some of the rubbish spouted on here, fairs, fair

I agree with most of what you're sayin, Jim. And what i said wasn't aimed at you in particular or this thread in particular, but a lot of stuff i've noticed on this forum over the last couple of months. There are extremists on either side of the thought-fence. Both of whom are equally ridiculous. These unrealistic people who are convinced we'll win the league are just as bad - i agree with that. It does border on embarrassing. I would never dare say something like that to a fellow fan, let alone an opposition fan, because that's just opening yourself to humiliation to be fair.

I have witnessed certain people slating certain players, the club (mainly due to lack of transfer activity/overpaying on players/not bidding enough for other players), Comolli, etc. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and entitled to air them on here, of course. But some of the stuff that's been said has just been outrageous and disrespectful to say the least. It gets quite tiresome. You can always predict who the people are, too. There are 5 or 6 users who just never have anything good to say, it's predictable, and not a co-incidence.

With regards to the likes of Jordan Henderson. I never said he was a fantastic player - i haven't even seen much of him for Sunderland, so it would be foolish of me to say that. What i will do though, is get in his corner when he's being labelled as "sh*te", and ask people to cop on and give the lad a chance before slating him. Another example was that "How long should Kenny get" thread. Discussion/exchange of opinions and that, fine. But i'm sorry, that sort of crap is just plain unnecessary.

I agree

Whilst no one in their right mind would suggest getting rid of Kenny at the moment - I think it's fair to ask how long he will get if all goes tits up

Hopefully this will remain a hypothetical question and if the end of last season is anything to go by we seem a resurgent team - and that's mainly thanks to Kenny

I think fans have a right to question why we signed two central midfielders - the one area of the team (apart from right back) that didn't need strengthening - and the prices we paid for Carrol, Henderson, even Downing

At the same time I acknowledge that getting Adam for £7m was a good bit of business and getting Suarez for £23m even better - so credit where it's due

I'll reserve judgement on Henderson [+ Comoli] - it is a lottle unfair to say he's no good before he's kicked a ball, I just can't yet see a justification for his pricetag - but i hope he proves me wrong

My worry was that it would be Adam and Henderson IN and Meireles & Aqualani OUT and in my opinion that would make us a weaker team - not a stronger one
