I think £18.5m for Henderson, if it's true, is too much but thats what you have to pay to get up and coming English talent.

The way I see it, the club are in a no win situation. We buy him and he's over priced. We don't and he goes on to be a superstar then it's why didn't we buy him?

We have all been critical of the club in the past for not paying the money for up and coming players like Walcott, Ramsey and even Ronaldo I believe. We could have got Ashley Young for £11m but wouldn't or couldn't pay that and now we will have to pay more to get him.

If we had a policy of overspending for British youth, would this not disqualify Suarez?

Quality is quality, regardless of nationality. And why mention Gibson? Even the Manc fans want to contribute to his bus faire out of Manchester. The English Core was Scholes and Giggs. Not the bit players. Vidic?

Cashly Cole is very english. And I dont think Loyalty when I think of him though his ex is amazing.

I would guess we would be paying someone like Henderson a hell of a lot less than we would Mata or Sahin though so it's not just looking at a transfer fee.

Don't think we need a Henderson particularly, but who knows if we really are in for him anyway.

i hope we don't want him, but the link is only getting stronger

we have been linked with bojan on sky sports. I dont think his suited to the PL. for a striker in the PL you have to be big and strong or quick and his got neither. ( or very talented like zola but dont think he is)whats yr view?

Bojan on loan would be reasonable, otherwise we would be spending a few m on a possible flop.

Everyone saying he is overrated, never hurts to have some perspective.

Last month an English midfielder produced in the sort of Herculean performance that should have earned rave reviews and catapulted him to the top of everyone's must-watch list.

Unfortunately Jordan Henderson's heroics at Wigan, holding together his midfield, covering acres, knitting together moves and setting up a goal, hardly got a mention because of team-mate Lee Cattermole's sending off.

But an immense performance it was, brimming with youthful exuberance, responsibility and sheer athleticism.

Henderson, 20, has been a talisman for Sunderland for a season now, regulars at the Stadium of Light knowing they have a real talent on their hands if he keeps learning.

Perhaps it is about time that the rest of the nation has started to recognise his potential.

As Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says: "I think it's fair to say that Jordan sometimes doesn't get the headlines or the recognition that he deserves. Maybe that has something to do with where we are geographically, I don't know.

"He's certainly got the attention the way he is playing now."

On Friday Henderson made his mark, scoring a 25 yard volley for England U21s in their Euro 2011 finals play-off against Romania. He'll be leading from the front again in the second leg on Tuesday.

The three England youngsters who are raved about on a weekly basis are Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, Blackburn's Phil Jones, and Manchester City's Adam Johnson. And quite right too.

That trio are showing they have potential to break into the senior side and displace some of the more ageing members of Capello's squad.

But surely Henderson should be elevated into their company?

He covers the ground like a whippet, he has vision, a rocket shot, and a cool head under pressure. Just out of his teens he has become an essential pick this season in the middle of Bruce's midfield.

He could fit into the England line up as one of the two holding midfielders, doing a Gareth Barry-style job. Maybe he'll even develop into a box-to-box midfielder, or end up playing wider on the right.

Identifying the next big thing has never been more important to the future of England. The World Cup, and the verve of the young Germans who emerged, showed that.

England's failure in South Africa has at least opened up minds to experimenting with youngsters, and even oldies like Kevin Davies. What appeared to be a closed shop before the summer has opened up and looks to be more of a meritocracy.

Henderson will get his chance soon enough. Capello was on the ball enough to check him out early last season when he was given his head at his home town club, following a successful loan spell at Coventry.

The lad from Farringdon Community Sports College is targeting improvements including adding goals to his game. "I need to work on that," he says. "I need to improve on finishing, I need to chip in with a lot more goals.

"I think it's a confidence thing. You need to believe you can score, and I need to believe that if I get into the right positions, I'm going to score."

Certainly Bruce believes Henderson has vast potential: "It would be unfair of me to liken Jordan to Giggsy at this stage, but there are parallels - certainly Jordan is becoming as important to us as Giggsy was in his early days at Old Trafford. Jordan has got a very, very bright future. The sky's the limit for him.

"Jordan has everything you need from a modern-day player - he has a lovely feel for the ball, but he is also 6ft 2in already and has terrific energy."

Last time I checked buying up and coming youngsters costs so little because the club had to do the hard thing and norture him to be a great player but nowadays clubs are putting crazy price tags on their players and its just not worth it anymore. Hendersen in my eyes is 6m worthy, no more yet Sunderland and Blackburn want 15m+ for their players its ridiclous. I would rather spend that money elsewhere thanks. The English are so highly priced yet they are very poor when it comes to building a complete player.
