I don't see us buying any foreign stars to be honest. Our strategy is quite clearly young hungry British players, and the reason being is that foreign players want instant success and loyalty is not as prominant as British players. Torres and Masch were loyal for a while, Arsenal are in meltdown over players now wanting out - Vela, Nasri, Cesc, Denilson. Chelsea and City have to pay silly wages to keep players and even then still have the disruption of an Adebayor or Tevez. UTD have always kept a strong British/Irish core and those players underpin the fabric of the club. B

The dressing room atmosphere is also really important and Dalglish is a master at getting a happy ship. This window will be about building for two years time. Henderson, Downing, Young,Wickham, McCarthy, Jones are in my view out top targets.
manc didnt pay ridiculous money for these average player

If we are aiming to get in the uefa cup at a push then maybe he is. We need to see players linked with us of the calibre of Alonso/Masch/Gerrard if we have higher aspirations or we need to accept that we will fall further behind the higher spending teams season after season, hoping for financial fair play rules to bail us out.

to be fairt though, how big was xabi alonso's reputation before we signed him? don't expect many of us to have known much about him before he signed for liverpool. same goes for masch, we knew who he was but was still unproven in the premiership playing in the reserves at alan pardew's west ham. benayoun, arbeloa, sissoko, crouch, agger etc are in the same boat. it was only at liverpool their reputation started to grow

so is it not possible for players like charlie adam to come in at a club like ours and really make a name for themselves?

I would change that to every up and coming starlet in continental europe dreams of Barca or Real. Thus they get players at bargin sometimes just on the fact the player will go nowhere else i.e. Affellay, Ozil and Sahin.

i like us signing english but not average english. for such huge money

The problem with English Players is there isn't enough quality technical players with exceptions e.g Wilshere and Young. Probably because they are not taught to play the beautiful game,

i completely agree with ya. but henderson for 18 million isn't good business when we have shelvey and also coady and adorjan coming up fast. i suppose kenny may not be a fan of all those players, witch would explain why he seems to want henderson and mccarthy but imo shelvey is as good as henderson just needs more football. i don't see CM as our problem area

I would guess we would be paying someone like Henderson a hell of a lot less than we would Mata or Sahin though so it's not just looking at a transfer fee.

Don't think we need a Henderson particularly, but who knows if we really are in for him anyway.
