Rigobert Song “improving by the minute” following stroke

Rigobert Song

Rigobert Song, the former Liverpool defender, is “improving by the minute” following the stroke he suffered on 2nd October, claim sources close to the Cameroon national side who visited him in hospital earlier this week.

Members of the Cameroon squad visited the 40-year-old following their World Cup qualifying Group B game against Algeria on Sunday along with Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Pierre Ishmael Bidoung Kpwatt, President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Tombi A Roko Sidiki and Cameroon’s Ambassador to France, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo.

Song had been transferred to The Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris from Cameroon where he underwent emergency surgery on 5th October which was later deemed as “successful”.

He has been out of a coma for some time and he’s making steady progress despite an internet hoax suggesting last week that he had died. Those claims spread like wildfire with people recklessly retweeting and reposting the claims across social media without checking the origin.

Song, capped 137 times by Cameroon, made 38 appearances for Liverpool between 1999 and 2000.
