Shakhtar Donetsk have rejected a £24.5million transfer bid from Liverpool for Alex Teixeira.
Teixeira is valued at around £38m so Liverpool have been urged to return with a new and improved offer.
Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre is scheduled to arrive back in the UK today after holding talks with Shakhtar Donetsk officials.
However, there is no way that Ayre would have headed out to the United States for talks if he thought a compromise couldn’t be reached, so we don’t believe the towel has been thrown in yet.
KOPTALK sources have indicated that Teixeira is up for a move to Anfield and that personal terms have allegedly already been agreed via his agent. But this doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be up for a move to Stamford Bridge either and again, his agent is free to discuss his clients demands with other clubs.
Liverpool believe that Teixeira, who bizarrely suffered a minor hamstring injury earlier in the week, wouldn’t have any problems achieving a work permit based on the new points system despite not being a Brazil international.
Chelsea, as you will know, are also interested in the player but as yet they don’t appear to have made a formal offer.
There have been suggestions from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) naysayers that the owners have sanctioned a move for Teixeira as Philippe Coutinho will be shipped out either this summer or next. There is of course no proof of such and although that does sound possible at some point unless things dramatically improve at Anfield, Liverpool are not currently looking to sell the midfielder.
Talks between Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk are ongoing.
