Reports in Spain today claim that Liverpool ace Mo Salah has been offered to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
SPORT – a Spanish sports newspaper based in Barcelona, with a strong focus on the Catalan giants – claims that Salah’s “inner circle continues to operate discreetly” behind the scenes, sounding out possible destinations for the Egyptian ace, should he fail to sign a new contract extension with the Reds.
The publication claims that Salah was offered to Barcelona in November and that more recently, “his representatives have also contacted Real Madrid, making it clear that Salah would be open to considering a move to the Santiago Bernabéu if Florentino Pérez’s club were willing to make a concrete offer.”
SPORT continues by saying that “Salah’s representatives insist that nothing has been decided yet regarding his future. His fitness remains excellent, and his desire to compete at the highest level is as strong as ever. Mid-February is still a time to gather all possible offers and evaluate his next move beyond June 30.”
Basically, the suggestion is that if Real Madrid opt to sell one of their attacking players in the summer, then Salah could make the switch to the Spanish capital if Florentino Pérez offers him a contract.
SPORT states that Salah wants to continue playing in Europe if he fails to renew with Liverpool as he isn’t looking for a move to the Saudi Pro League just yet.
It’s no secret that Salah would prefer to remain at Anfield. His agent, Ramy Abbas, reaching out to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid is both believable and normal, as that’s his job. However, we are still not alarmed by the fact that Salah is yet to sign a new contract with the Reds or that Abbas is covering all bases.
With nobody stepping up yet to make Salah an offer, this leaves Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards in what they believe is a position of power. However, Abbas knows that the sh*t will hit the fan if one of the world’s best players leaves Anfield on a free, so he too will feel confident. Hughes and Edwards, along with the club’s owners, would face a huge backlash if his client didn’t extend. This is obviously why there’s a stand-off.
As of today, we still feel that Salah – along with Virgil van Dijk – will be Liverpool players next season, and that some positive news will drop soon, especially after the representatives of both players met with Liverpool officials during the last couple of weeks. We do not believe the speculative reports that claim Virgil has been offered to Real Madrid or that he has held talks with Barcelona, as these originate from questionable online outlets.
Additionally, we feel that Trent Alexander-Arnold will complete a proposed free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer unless he makes a dramatic U-turn or is seriously injured before the end of the season.
