Real Madrid hoping to do business with Liverpool

Keylor Navas

Followers of KopTalk and especially KopTalk.TV, our free YouTube channel, will know that we have for some time suggested that Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas could end up at Anfield in the summer if other goalkeeping options fall through.

Despite Liverpool being linked with a number of goalkeepers including the likes of Roma’s Alisson, Stoke City’s Jack Butland and Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak, we have always believed that Navas could be what some may consider a ‘shock signing’ in the sense of it coming out of the blue if all else fails. Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp rates him highly and has previously tried to recruit him. We believe he is still being briefed on his performances.

Obviously, most Liverpool fans would prefer to land someone like Alisson but although Roma look set to welcome offers in the summer – and are believed to be currently looking for a replacement – the asking price for Alisson has been mooted as high as £70million and it could go higher if a bidding war kicks in due to interest from Real Madrid and PSG.

With Loris Karius starting to look a lot more confident, we could see Klopp turning to the likes of Navas or Butland and investing the money he could potentially save in another centre-back instead.

Much depends on what happens with Karius between now and the summer as to how much Liverpool will have to invest in the goalkeeping department. Simon Mignolet is currently trying to find a new club so at least one goalkeeper should be recruited. If Karius continues to improve, then Klopp may not need to pursue 2 ‘keepers as he was previously expected to.

KopTalk sources have previously claimed that there has been ongoing contact between Klopp and Navas and that Real Madrid were willing to do business with us as they want to land Alisson. Those claims appeared to have been backed up with the latest reports from Spain today stating that the Spanish giants are hoping Liverpool end their interest in Stoke City’s Jack Butland because they were hoping to move Navas to Anfield. That gets him off the books and the money would help fund a move for Alisson.

Lots of ifs, buts and maybes will apply in the summer when it comes to which goalkeeper we will actually end up with. There are of course many factors to consider especially as a goalkeeper merry-go-round in Europe is anticipated.

From what we’re hearing, although Klopp is keen on Alisson, the Reds feel it could be a difficult transfer to pull off. That, coupled with the fact that he would cost a fortune, is why we believe we’ve cooled our interest in him at the present time. Note: Cooled not ended. That leaves a number of other options for Klopp to consider but if we don’t go in for the Roma ace, we expect a bid to go in for Butland and if that fails, then Navas could be the cheeky outsider.

To put it simply, the last update from KopTalk sources was that we had cooled on Alisson, that Butland was now under serious consideration and that Navas was the fallback option.

We appreciate this article is speculative and that you may need to read it a couple of times to make sense of it. We wanted to inform you about Real Madrid’s hopes of selling Navas to Liverpool as it backs up our previous claims that we have an interest in him. However, at the same time, we wanted to provide an update regarding the current chatter coming from within Anfield with regards Alisson and Butland.

Meanwhile, Roma chief Monchi claims that the Italian outfit are not looking to cash in on Alisson.

Despite reports suggesting he’s now looking for a new goalkeeper ahead of a possible summer sale, he suggests that Alisson will be staying put.

“Fans should be happy to have a goalkeeper of this level,” said the Roma director of football.

“We are happy with him and we hope he stays here for many years. He still has four years of contract, he has no release clause and we have not talked about anything with him.

“We have to stay focused on the end of the season.”

‘We’d also suggest you keep an eye on Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas. He was heavily linked with us a couple of years ago and there’s been chatter that Klopp tried to bring him to Anfield last year. He could be on the move in the summer with Real Madrid actively looking for a new ‘keeper,’KOPTALK, 02.02.18

‘Reports originating from Spain claim that Klopp enquired about the 30-year-old’s (Navas) availability towards the end of the summer transfer window and that his interest remains,’KOPTALK, 01.11.17
