Nathaniel Clyne a doubt for Stoke City

Nathaniel Clyne is an injury doubt ahead of tomorrow’s League Cup semi-final second leg tie against Stoke City.

The 24-year-old defender picked up a knock on his knee during the 5-4 win over Norwich City and hasn’t trained as normal.

A decision will be made later by Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp but he may have to call upon Jon Flanagan.

Speaking at today’s pre-match press conference, Klopp said: “Clyney got a knock on the knee. He is a really tough boy, he is always available, but I think today it will not work for training.

“We don’t do too much, of course, but I think we should leave him out of training. We have to see what will happen overnight and make a decision but it’s not too easy because we have only Flanno.

“We all love Flanno but he had a long time [out injured] and 90 minutes or more is maybe not the best thing. But if there’s an opportunity we would like to try it.

“He is ready but of course it would be better if Clyney got fit.”

Commenting on the availability of other players who have been injured recently, Klopp added: “Dejan has now been out three weeks. He trained yesterday and did a complete exercise session with the team. It was good but three weeks are three weeks, we have to see.

“If nothing happens with Kolo and Mama in the next 24 hours I think they should do it again because Steven [Caulker] can’t play. That’s not too good, you buy players in January but you can’t use them in the cup, that’s nice.”
