Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini will not be punished for elbowing Emre Can during last week’s Europa League tie at Anfield.
The 28-year-old midfielder dropped Can on the edge of the box with his arm but there will be no retrospective punishment from Uefa meaning he will be available for the 2nd leg on Thursday.
At the time of the incident, former referee Howard Webb commented: “It’s clearly an act of violent conduct. He’s lucky that none of the six officials saw it on the day.”
However, Can played down the incident saying it was no big deal.
“Fellaini is a fair sportsman. He touched my throat with his elbow but it is OK,” said the German.
“It was just a small fight. It was not a boxing ring punch.”
UEFA have also decided not to take action against Manchester United following sick chants about the Hillsborough disaster by a number of their ‘supporters’.
