Liverpool have not agreed a transfer fee with FC Köln for Jonas Hector despite premature reports towards the end of last week claiming such.
Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp has enquired about the availability of the 26-year-old left-back but no formal bid has been tabled [as yet].
We reported our interest in the highly-rated German international back in March and in April. He was linked with us again on May 13th with quotes from a source on a members’ news item about 2 of Klopp’s other targets adding: “Liverpool may be speaking to Köln about the availability of Jonas Hector but no attempts are currently being made [to negotiate a deal].”
Since then Liverpool have made an enquiry about his availability and his valuation, which could of course rocket if he has a successful Euro 2016.
FC Köln sporting director Jörg Schmadtke has played down chatter that Hector could leave them by saying there’s been no offer from Liverpool. However, well placed KOPTALK sources state that Schmadtke has invited an offer from us.
A source told us: “Liverpool were informed via a 3rd party that Köln would definitely sell to them at around £12million. Liverpool were hoping to secure for less.
“Following an enquiry from Anfield that figure was raised by a further £3m and Köln are now hinting that he could be worth more, and will be worth more, after the Euros.
“Liverpool are keen on the player but not the price.”
We were asked over the weekend why we hadn’t reported that Liverpool had agreed a fee for Hector. Our answer was because we didn’t believe we had. Having been established for almost 2 decades and thanks to the ongoing support from our members, we don’t need to focus on click-baiting news articles to generate revenue. We’ll cover something when we need to.
