LIVERPOOL WANT TO EXTEND FABINHO’S CONTRACT

Liverpool chiefs are hoping to sit down with Fabinho’s agent to discuss extending the player’s Anfield contract.

The 26-year-old midfielder’s current deal runs until 2023 but the Reds are looking at offering improved terms to see him extend his stay. Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes of the GestiFute agency is said to be willing to sit down for talks despite his client only having made the switch to Liverpool from Monaco last summer.

Fabinho, who turned down both Manchester clubs and PSG to join Liverpool, took his time to settle but he is now one of the first names on Jürgen Klopp’s teamsheets.

Speaking recently, Fabinho’s brother-in-law, Ricardo Assis, explained why the player opted to further his career at Anfield.

“Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United , Manchester City and Juventus also talked to his agent, but it was Liverpool that made all the effort to sign him,” Assis said.

“Klopp showed him videos of the team, explained why he wanted to sign him but he also made it clear that it wouldn’t be straightforward for him to be a regular starter from the beginning.

“Fabinho left the meeting determined to join Liverpool.“

During the international break which has just concluded, Brazil manager Tite singled out the Liverpool man for praise.

He said: “All the times he played, he played very well. He brings confidence from his club to the Brazil national squad in a natural way and we can feel it. It’s not that you can only see it, you can feel it.

“Fabinho is playing his normal football in a role that he also has at Liverpool.”

Tite isn’t Fabinho’s only fan. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has previously been quoted saying that Fabinho is the best holding midfielder in the Premier League while former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has commented that he’s the best in the world.
