Liverpool take on Hull City at Anfield in the Premier League this afternoon.
The game kicks off at 3pm but will not be shown on live television in the UK. Various networks around the world will show the match but UK broadcasters are prevented from showing 3pm kick-offs on Saturdays.
Back in the 1960s, Burnley Chairman Bob Lord convinced his counterparts at other Football League clubs that televised matches on a Saturday afternoon would harm attendances at lower league clubs because people would rather watch the ‘big’ clubs if they were on TV. The outcome of his proposal has remained in place ever since.
Supporters desperate to watch their team in action often have to turn to illegal streams, despite being willing to pay for such content. Such streams can be hit-and-miss and at times completely frustrating due to the amount of adverts overlaying them.
‘Switched on’ fans are turning to Android boxes installed with ‘Kodi’ which can be modified with a few clicks of a remote control to show streams. Again though, quality can suffer unless you are willing to pay a for a quality provider which will set you back about a tenner a month or up to £80-a-year. Many fans take their chances with the free options though.
Liverpool v Hull City streams will be available in the KopTalk forums from kick-off. Free registration is required to post.
