Newspaper reports claim that Liverpool scouts watched Port Vale’s Nathan Smith in action at the weekend.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who spent last season on loan at Torquay United where he won their young and senior player of the year awards, is said to be attracting interest from a number of clubs including ourselves and Arsenal.
Despite only making his Football League debut on the opening day of this season, he has quickly established himself as one of Port Vale’s most valuable players. He was rewarded with a new deal in September to reflect that and he is now tied down in theory until June 2020.
Smith came through the youth system at Vale Park after they spotted him in action with local junior side Madeley White Star.
