Liverpool linked with Rob Green

Liverpool have been linked with a possible move for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Rob Green.

The 35-year-old, who is attracting interest from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, has also been the subject of an enquiry from Anfield, if you believe information that appears to have been leaked to the London media today by the player’s club or agent.

Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation could be considered somewhat of a mess. Well placed sources claim that manager Jürgen Klopp wants to upgrade first choice ‘keeper Simon Mignolet yet he’s been offered a new 5-year contract and a pay rise [ED: Don’t worry, he’ll end up dropping the pen anyway!].

One goalkeeper Klopp does fancy is Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen but an asking price in the region of £20million has reportedly seen our interest cool. The manager needs to strengthen other areas of his team so that makes you wonder if the funds are maybe not going to be there for him to do everything he wants to in the summer. But there should of course be funds from sales and it really is too early to determine what kitty he will have.

Adam Bogdan’s brief flirtation with the first team has already seen him canned with the boss recalling Danny Ward from his loan with Aberdeen to provide cover; a decision we completely agree with.

Out of the three of them, we only rate Ward but we don’t consider him ready to replace Mignolet. In an ideal world we’d like us to see us go in to next season with a top goalkeeper challenged by Mignolet and Ward. Whether or not that’s going to happen, we’ll have to wait and see.
