Supporters will be aware of ongoing media reports that suggest the club is being lined up for a sale to the Middle East; reports that we have tried to stay clear of but we’re now having to chime in on.
One suggestion is that Sheikh Khalifa (above right), president of the United Arab Emirates and the wealthier half-brother of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, is the man behind an alleged take-over attempt.
Sheikh Khalifa previously tried to buy the club from former owner David Moores before he sold up to George Gillett and Tom Hicks. Then, several years later, when that duo were in trouble, Hicks tried to entice Khalifa into buying the club again but he wasn’t interested.
If you believe the latest reports, Khalifa is again interested in a possible purchase but there have been suggestions that he would be prevented from buying the club due a conflict of interest with Mansour. However, a Premier League spokesperson has been quoted as saying there wouldn’t be a problem *if* such a scenario developed.
“There is no Premier League rule in terms of relations owning different clubs,” said an unnamed PL representative.
In January 2014 Sheikh Kalifa underwent surgery after suffering a stroke. There have been rumours about his health ever since then but these have always been played down by official Government sources.
The source of the current claims can’t be classed as credible but we wouldn’t dismiss them entirely just yet, although under normal circumstances we would.
We have maintained over the last year that FSG have been involved with talks about a sale to a Qatar and only 3 weeks ago we were provided information that suggested new activity in relation to that. Yesterday the KopTalk editor spoke briefly about claims of possible new interest in the club via a video update at *DKB.TV while overnight, reports have come out about the same subject.
So what’s happening? Do we think something’s going down? Well the best advice we can give you is to check the members’ website and DKB.TV.
