Liverpool v Manchester United – TEAM NEWS

Gini Wijnaldum

Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has returned to Melwood after sustaining a hamstring injury while on international duty.

The 25-year-old limped off during the Netherlands’ 1-0 defeat against France in Amsterdam last night and will now undergo a scan to determine how serious the injury is. He is currently deemed a doubt for next Monday’s Premier League battle against visitors Manchester United.

With Wijnaldum’s situation looking precarious, boss Jürgen Klopp will be hoping that Adam Lallana can return to training soon. The Reds’ midfielder has been undergoing treatment at Melwood having injured his groin against Swansea City but there’s still no sign of him as the Reds start to prepare for United.

Defenders Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne have made progress during the international break after picking up knocks against Swansea and should be available for selection.

Most international players will report back to Melwood tomorrow but Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino aren’t due back until Thursday due to their World Cup qualifier in Venezuela at 1.30am UK time tomorrow. They then face a grueling 5,000-mile journey back to Merseyside.
