Joël Matip ruled out of Merseyside derby

Liverpool defender Joël Matip has been ruled out of this evening’s Merseyside derby.

Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp was hoping that the 25-year-old would be available for selection but a decision has been made not to risk him.

The highly-rated player has been struggling with an ankle injury and sadly won’t be involved against Everton after failing to prove his fitness.

Ragnar Klavan is now expected to be deployed alongside Dejan Lovren in the heart of defence.
