Manchester-born referee Anthony Taylor could be United’s 12th man on Monday when the two sides meet in the Premier League at Anfield, that’s the view of some Liverpool fans who are naturally unhappy with this development.
The 37-year-old was born in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester and lives just six miles away from Old Trafford in Altrincham, but the Premier League do not believe this impacts on the appointment for this high-profile fixture.
Officials have to declare who they support and it is claimed that Taylor is a fan of National League North outfit Altrincham FC but if you believe the whispers, he’s a United fan along with the rest of his family. Well if it’s on the internet it MUST be true, right?!
Taylor hasn’t taken charge of any Liverpool games this season but he did oversee United’s 2-0 win over Southampton in August.
