KOPTALK sources are reporting that Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard remains in custody this afternoon following a brawl at the Lounge Inn, Southport (right).
Police were called to an incident during the early hours of this morning and Gerrard was one of the six people arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault.
It has since emerged that the 34-year-old man taken to hospital with facial injuries is employed by the Lounge Inn as a DJ.
The sister of the Lounge Inn co-owner, Dario Curcillo, said Gerrard had been in the club to celebrate Liverpool's win over Newcastle United.
"As far as I know he comes here regularly and it was just a normal night at the bar," she said. Her brother has refused to speak to the media.
Gerrard's wife, Alex Curran, left a coffee shop close to the police station where Gerrard was being questioned shortly after 2.30pm this afternoon.
Grievous Bodily Harm is the most serious of assault offences and can be charged under section 18 or section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. A charge under section 20 of the 1861 act carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment whereas an offence under section 18 carries the harsher sentence of life imprisonment.
While police continue their investigations, KOPTALK sources claim that Liverpool Football Club have launched an investigation of their own.
KOPTALK would like to remind supporters, especially those who do not understand the British legal system, that Gerrard has NOT been charged, as yet, with anything and that a complaint has merely been made against him. Even if charged, the allegations would then have to be proven in court.
Gerrard remains innocent until a court says any differently.
